  1. I'd agree that some of the games on the SNES were the best I've ever played. My favorite zelda game is LTTP, my favorite metroid is Super Metroid, and of course, the SNES was the home of the last great all 2D platformers. But the Revolution will allow players to experience games from all of nintendo's systems so if we're going for all time coolest system, it would absorb the coolness of all prior systems. There are a lot of details yet to be released though so we'll see. I think that there are also some great things to be said for the N64 but being a transition system (2D to 3D) the games often lacked the refinement and complexity of the more polished SNES games.
  2. I'd LOVE to see the Super Metroid guide! I've been trying to get my hands on that for years. copies on ebay are hard to come by and generally go for 20+ dollars. Finally I'll be able to get all the missles. I'd also love to see the NES Game Atlas and the Game Boy and Super NES guides that were released around the same time as Mario Mania. Finally, two of the best guides ever were the Super Mario 3 Guide and Zelda: LTTP.

    A Bit Hesitant

The easiest way to get to the releases is to go to mininova.org and search for nintendo power or retromags or gamepro. All of the releases should show up in the search results.

    Poll Section

Understandable. How would you feel about me making a single post with links to all of the polls throughout the forum for those who are interested? It could be an ongoing thing that is edited as new polls are added.
  5. That's pretty sweet man. I am actually thinking of trying an AMD dual core processor in my next machine. I have been looking at a lot of performance tests lately and AMD's dual core offerings look pretty darn good to me. I added a new 200GB hard drive to my PC yesterday and am loving the space. I also set my self up with dual monitors. I am loving the desktop space too!

    Poll Section

It would be nice if all of the threads with Polls were moved together into one section so that they are easier for people to find and participate in. These polls that only have 5-6 votes aren't so interesting...
  7. In case you haven't checked out this link, there are alot of other cool patents for time travel type devices. This is the stuff of a Back to the Future loving Trekkie's dreams. Yes that's me.
  8. Just out of curiosity, what's the most visually impressive thing you have tried out on your new TV so far? I'll bet that the 360 looks good on it. Are you planning to be an HD-DVD/Bluray early adopter? I'm hesitant to get such a nice big TV myself as I am worried that it will magnify all of the flaws in my video. It's an ignorance is bliss policy. I like to call it "what I can't see won't bug me".
  9. I don't know. I'm pretty satisfied with Windows XP. Rumor has it that Service Pack 3 is on the way and that it is supposed to make XP even more stable and secure and provide some bug fixes. I honestly don't see myself upgrading my current machine to Vista within the next few years. I just upgraded a machine that I got in 2001 to XP this summer and THAT was a worthwhile upgrade (ME to XP). Millenium Edition was a horrible OS. Of course if I buy a shiny new multicore PC within the next few years it's pretty much inevitable that Vista will come preinstalled. I kind of agree with the policy of waiting for some bugs to get worked out though (not for it to be cracked though). Even though I am a big fan of cracked software, I'd never use a cracked OS. I depend on my PCs far too much.
  10. Most of the first 30 issues can be downloaded via Bittorrent. You can follow the links from the forum or just search for nintendo power on mininova.org. Also, if you become a premium member on this site (by paying $20, you can download several issues directly from the server.
  11. A lot of those figures ARE pretty cool! If looking through that forum makes you feel like less of a nerdy loser then go right ahead. I'm just going to sit here and revel in my own nerdiness!
  12. And remember everyone, the rule of thumb is to seed until your ratio is AT LEAST 1.000. In theory, if everyone seeds to a ratio of 1.000, then there is not a burden on any single user. Of course, a lot of users will not follow Bittorrent ettiquitte and just leech until they have their copy of the file so if you can it's best to seed for as long as possible. I am lucky to have a nice fast upload speed (90kB/s) but I understand that others may not be so fortunate. Maybe someday we'll all have fiber optic internet connections with 5 Mb/s upload speeds.
  13. Wow, that looks pretty sweet. I'm still stuck with my vintage 2000 JVC 32" tube TV (with S-Video input!!! ). One of these days... Anyway, congrats on the new set.

    Zelda Nes Commercial

I did notice the black buttons on the NES in that commercial. What''s up with that? Ever play the original Zelda hacked to use the sprites from Link's Awakening?
  15. I wonder if Apple would be better off just selling a modified version of their OS that would run on PCs? It seems like there are quite a few people out there who would buy into that. Maybe they are restricting it to their own hardware just so that they can be bringing in money from hardware sales? Another part of the philosophy might be that if all Macs are using similar hardware, they will generally be more stable and easier to provide cuttomer support for than if there were infinite possible hardware configurations running their OS.

    Zelda Nes Commercial

Yeah, actually, I was the blond kid with the glasses. If only I could add theme music to my Retromags profile. That Zelda rap is classic!
  17. I also have a P4 3.0 ghz HT but I don't have any fancy cooling systems, only the fans and heatsinks that came with my machine. I know it's probably not the best idea when it comes to keeping dust out but I just leave the side panel off of my machine. It allows for amazing ventilation and it runs much more quietly since the fans are at lower speeds. I blow any built up dust out of it every few weeks. If anyone who is more experienced with PC cooling than I would like to recommend a better solution and admonish my open case strategy, I welcome your comments.
  18. That's a great idea . Tell people about the wealth of free stuff that they can get on illegal P2P networks. That will stop those filthy pirates! Seriously, I wonder how many more people would use P2P if they A)knew how, B)had fast internet connections, and C)had any idea of the amount of cool stuff was available. The lure of complete TV series in DivX, pre-release CDs and DVDs, and complete MP3/lossless discographies of certain bands can be mighty strong! Then again, it's amazing how many people have no idea how to use new technologies and are unwilling to learn, no matter what benefits might be reaped. Phillyman can probably back me up on that, being a Best Buy Geek Squad agent.
  19. It's uploading to the swarm nicely now.
  20. Here's a series of pics that I captured off of one of my home videos. Several years ago my friends and I were testing some potential new fuels for a potato cannon and we found out that carburetor starting fluid spray was a little bit TOO combustible.
  21. I haven't used either of those operating systems as I've never had a PDA but as far as I'm concerned, the more free apps/homebrew program support the better!
  22. There seems to be a problem with the uploading of Nintendo Power Issue 32 (Jan 1992) from last night. I see that 27 people (including myself) are currently leeching with no seeds and only 0.005 copies distributed through the swarm.
  23. When do we advanced/premium members get a wicked cool icon (ex: Admin, Member, etc.)?
  24. I do appreciate the backwards compatibility of the Gameboy/DS line but I wonder how much harder it would have been to implement full backwards compatibility into the GB Micro and the DS as they did with the GBA line up through the GBA SP. I just thought that it was cool to be able to play a game that was released almost 2 decades ago on a modern piece of hardware. I guess that if I were an exec at Nintendo I probably would have made the same decision seeing as removing hardware support of pre GBA generation games probably allows them to make the new hardware smaller and lighter. Also, it's getting pretty hard to find pre GBA generation cartridges at the used game stores, unless you are willing to get your games via eBay. Even then the selection can be sparse and overpriced.
