Other Manufacturers

Besides Philips, several other manufacturers produced CD-i players, including Magnavox, GoldStar / LG Electronics, Digital Video Systems, Memorex, Grundig, Kyocera, NBS, Highscreen, and Bang & Olufsen, who produced a television with a built-in CD-i device.

CD-i also refers to the multimedia Compact Disc standard utilized by the CD-i console, also known as Green Book, which was co-developed by Philips and Sony in 1986.

No i believe the Playstation was gonna be an Addon for the SNES .....Nintendo screwed up the deal by not agreeing to paying Sony 40% royalties .....and the deal went south .....Sony wasnt tied to Nintendo any longer and made the Playstation in 1995

Now as for CD-I .......Again Nintendo Screwed up and thru a legal loophole .....Phillips had the rights to use Zelda series to make a game .....I forget how CD-I got away with this

In 1994, Nintendo and Philips and Sony had partnered up to make a CD add-on for the SNES. The add-on would produce better sound, graphics, and larger games. A little while after they had started the idea, Sega released the same thing to their "Mega Drive", and Nintendo put the idea to a halt.

So both Philips and Sony went off and released their own consoles, Sony releasing the Playstation, and Philips releasing the CD-i. Nintendo had given Philips permission to use their characters while they were working on the CD add-on, so the Zelda CD-i's are the outcome.

The funny thing about it is now, they seem to let more companies license out Nintendo characterts then before, Capcom and EA come to mind, and Square too for the Mario Basketball game, but they do seem to place the Nintendo characters far better, and don't make the crazy ventures like they did in the CD-i days.
