  1. Yes, Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors. He was so awesome in Mrs. Doubtfire! I heard from the news that he was fighting depression and early signs of Parkinson's Disease for a while now. This is probably why he committed suicide (hung himself with a belt). My love goes to his family and friends. Because the surviving family members and closed ones are who need help the most to deal with the grief. The one who passed away just needs to go to the right place in his consciousness. The rest we leave to God. Either way, my prayers be with Mr. Robin Williams and all his closest loved ones.

  5. Yep, I just got my EGM Issue 264 today. In fact, I got the same cover (1 out of 4). Anybody who got the other covers, please post it here for us to see. :-) Seems like EGM is permanently on a quarterly system now because my address label reads, "Winter 2016" as the last issue of my current subscription, which is 2 years from now.
  6. Oh yeah, I saw 5-6 episodes of the remade He-Man. I forgot about that one. I agree, it is good with better animation and coloring. The storyline is good too. I also saw the remake of Voltron. Eh, it's a good example of bad rehashes of 80s cartoons. The Voltron pilots are more like teenage bebops, and the entire series is less serious in my opinion. Voltron supposed to be epic and dramatic, not silly most of the time.
  7. Cool, thanks RetroDefense for the reviews of your DVD purchases. Man, I remember Inch High Private Eye and Thundarr. They don't make TV cartoons like they used to. These days, they either remake the older stuff or make stupid shows I can't watch for more than 5 minutes. Even some of the remakes are boring (i.e. Transformers Prime). It think the only good cartoons that they remade are Thundercats and the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But I digress, I agree that it can be kinda expensive for low budget DVD prints. But hey, how else are you going to watch them on DVD besides downloading them yourself. But the downloads are usually bad quality and/or not complete. So I'm glad that there is a chance for us to own a copy of these classic cartoons.
  8. Hi everybody, The Retron 5 has been released today. But you might want to wait a while before getting one, since it's sold out everywhere. It's now available for $140.00, but might take a while to ship. Don't even bother going to their web site though. http://www.retron5.com It's overloaded with visitors today and will not open, not surprisingly. It's been delayed over and over. But at least it's out now. :-) In the meantime, read the article about its release: http://arcadesushi.com/10-in-1-retro-console-retron-5-launches-today/
  9. That's cool. The Retron 5 has been delayed due to manufacturing issues since December 2013. So I wouldn't hold my breath. But it is a nice system when it comes out. Right now, I have a Retro gaming room and Modern gaming room. And my Retro one has a bunch of classic consoles hooked up to the same CRT TV. I'm out of room in the entertainment center. Although, I have a second CRT TV that I can hook consoles to it. So it would be nice to have a Retron 5 occupy one space, leaving the rest of my center to more retro systems.
  10. Hi everybody, Warner Bros. finally released Challenge of the Gobots Volume 1! This one has the first 30 episodes of the series. Remember this is a print-on-demand DVD-R copy. But it is professionally done as discussed in my previous thread about the Challenge of the Gobots Miniseries DVD here: http://community.retromags.com/topic/8262-challenge-of-the-gobots-dvd-miniseries-1984/. Here's hoping that they will finish up the series eventually. Have patience, grasshopper! You can grab a copy on Warner Bros Ebay store here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Challenge-Gobots-Series-Volume-1-30eps-/301176713751?pt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&hash=item461f87f217.

  13. Well, there are a lot of folks out there who got rid of their "old fashioned" CRT Televisions. So, all they got is their fancy HDTVs. If they want to get the best possible picture from the NES without pixelation, then this Analogue NT is their best bet. Sprites do look awful on a high def TV. Polygons look a lot better when it is zoomed in and clear. But Sprites are an entirely different story. Upscaling allows Pixels (Sprites) to look crystal clear but not ugly. Also, some folks are obsessed with the audio portion. The original model NES had RCA (composite) outputs as well. However, the sound was just mono unless you buy a cord that split the audio into left and right speakers. But even then, it was still mono. The Analogue NT can recreate stereo effects. Plus, the Famicom audio support is awesome. You haven't heard Castlevania III or Kid Icarus music until you try out the Famicom version.
  14. Hi everybody, If you are ever looking for a NES Clone that can output via RGB, HDMI, Component, or Composite (uses upscaling to look good on a High Def TV), native stereo sound, expansion port for Famicom Disk games & sound expansion (The Famicom had additional sound hardware for better music/sound effects, i.e. Castlevania III), support for 4 players, and play Famicom & NES game carts perfectly, then, I guess you should pick up the Analogue NT Console. It is the best NES Clone to date for a measly $500. :-) Who needs the Xbox ONE or PS4 when you can relive the NES time period in high def? Check out its features: Analogue NT Pre-order it: Release Date - Summer 2014
  15. My EGM Issue 263 has arrived! Check it out below. Because of my low resolution camera, the issue reads, "Spring 2014, Display Until 6/23/2014." From the way it looks, we are probably not going to get another issue until June, which will most likely be the "Summer 2014 Issue." Unless they do a midterm one like a buyer's guide or something in between, similar to back in November 2013.

  17. Good stuff, exactly my sentiments. Nintendo Force does feel a lot like Nintendo Power, definitely made by fans of the classic magazine. Long live print magazines! For those who haven't already done so, support Nintendo Force for their 2nd year of publication at the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/910078610/nf-magazine-year-2-subscriptions. They have already succeeded in funding the 2nd year, but are now working on stretch goals. If you dislike Kickstarter for some reason, you can just subscribe here: http://www.nintendoforcemagazine.com/product/the-nf-magazine-year-2-subscription/
  18. Remember when customer service said they are going to send me another copy, since I didn't get one in December? Well, I got it today. And it's basically Issue # 262 with the original logo! It's so cool that the duplicate is what I wanted. Hehe. Well, thanks EGM for sending the replacement. I appreciate it.
  19. The Nintendo Force Magazine Kickstarter was quite successful last year. They launched the magazine and continued the Nintendo Power legacy with much fanfare. However, the initial Kickstarter funding was only enough for a year's worth of issues (7 issues, bi-monthly with the additional Jan/Feb 2014 issue). They have a new Kickstarter this year: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/910078610/nf-magazine-year-2-subscriptions for the second year of issues. In a week's time, they have nearly reached the goal already. They are soon working on stretch goals (beyond the initial funding requirement), which will allow nice foldout posters in coming issues similar to Nintendo Power and a free print copy of Nintendo Force Issue # 1 to everybody who helped with this Kickstarter! This is expected due to Nintendo Force being a brand new venture rather than an existing one like EGM. I see Kickstarter for EGM as a boost in funding so they can catch up on renovating and bring it back to the EGM we all know and love. I have supported a few ventures on Kickstarter and Indiegogo related to video games and movies, and they were all successful in the end. People are willing to support ventures as long as there is passion, nice presentation, and a cool package to go along with the money.
  20. I finally got my new issue of EGM. It's cover 4 of 4 (the same ugly EGM logo you got), so sorry I don't have the cover you are looking for. I also got a renewal notice for being the last issue of my subscription from last time. I want to quote an interesting fine print at the bottom of the renewal card: "Electronic Gaming Monthly is published monthly with certain exceptions. A special issue may count as a subscription issue, a combined issue may count as two subscription issues, and there may sometimes be an extra issue." So according to this, we never know what we will get next! But EGM has not been published monthly since August 2011! That makes it 2 1/2 years ago since the last issue that was published monthly. Maybe they should use the Nintendo Force Magazine model and try Kickstarter to bring back the original EGM with more pages and go back to monthly? EGM already has a great name and history. So getting a larger Kickstarter support than NF Magazine is not out of the question. Just a thought.
  21. Very nice, spoonman! I don't have the shelving to put all my EGMs, Nintendo Powers, and Gamefans in one place. But they are all mint as well. In fact, the first few years of Nintendo Power, I put them back into protective plastic bags over a decade ago. So they look just as good as when they first arrived in the mailbox.
  22. Well, that stinks. Didn't it come in a plastic bag, or did the mail tear that up too? When I was kid, my only subscription was Nintendo Power. And when an issue arrived late with torn pages everywhere, it was a horrible feeling to see holes and tears of my Nintendo Power in the mail. You better believe I was mad. I was such a collector, even at 13 years old.
  23. Thanks, E-day. Sounds pretty cool, I can't wait for my copy to arrive then! I renewed my subscription as well in November. You were talking about renewing for another 2 years; so I was wondering why you would want to know when your sub will expire. I was like, "Did he change his mind about renewing?" :-) I do like the original EGM logo as well. I hope EGM is paying attention to this thread about our ideas, rants, and so forth. Hehe.
  24. I got an update from customer service today. They apologized that I didn't receive the Jan/Feb 2014 issue and are sending a replacement. Am I going to receive a duplicate? If the Jan/Feb 2014 issue is number 262, then why did they say I would get it back in December when Greylids said they just shipped it out? Well, I guess only time will tell. Hehe.
  25. Yeah boy, I enjoyed the issue as well. It's so awesome reading about classic games like the Battle of Olympus for NES article. I never even played that game. Sounds like I got to collect it now! :-) But the writing in RETRO are also great, very funny and enlightening at the same time. The staff seems to have done their research and are knowledgeable about the gaming industry (past and present) in general. The paper quality is even higher than the modern EGM. So it's very collectible and will last decades to come. It's not very thick (page count, but then what video game magazine is thick these days?); but otherwise, it feels a lot like EGM back in the day.
