  1. The first couple of computers my family owned didn't have an HDD, but the 3rd was a 486 33MhZ PC with 8MB RAM and a whopping 250MB HDD. That's enough storage to hold...one magazine. So long as it isn't an especially long magazine, that is. But yeah, if the drive you found HAD been a 10 MB Seagate, it would have hailed from 1983, WAY before most people owned computers with HDDs (the first ever HDD was 5MB in 1980). Meanwhile, I fill an 8TB drive every 4 months or so.
  2. Yeah, the non-English speaking world uses either a period or a space rather than a comma to separate large numbers. So 10,110 MB would be written as either 10 110 MB or 10.110 MB (as it is here). Unless you're in Japan, in which case, they don't separate numbers at all. Which is insanity on really large numbers. Quick, what's 534767386178 at a glance? Who the #$!@ knows, right? You've gotta count out the digits. Of course, they separate numbers differently here anyway, so even if they DID use commas/periods/spaces, they'd be in different locations and I'd be just as screwed, I guess. Rather than splitting everything into hundreds, thousands, millions, billions, etc., they separate by hundred, thousand, ten thousand, one hundred million, and I don't even know what comes after that because it isn't anything useful in normal life. But I digress.
  3. Yeah, this is completely missing the point. He has scans. That's great. He wants to share. That's awesome. And you're right, we'll be happy to add anything of readable quality to our personal collections. However, in regards to hosting, depending on a number of factors, there are different ways/places to share those mags. If he scanned and edited them himself and they adhere to our quality standards, then we would be happy to host them here (these are the same rules we all follow.) If he found them elsewhere or they aren't up to our standards, then we can't allow them here, that doesn't mean we wouldn't be extremely grateful to see them uploaded somewhere else. Either way, the mags get shared. Either way, we're happy. You seem to be trying to suggest that we're trying to keep the scans from being shared, or insulting Scarred Sun in some way. Which is ridiculous. We're trying to help by determining the best place possible for him to share the mags. Whether here, there, both places, or somewhere else entirely, as long as they get shared, we can all be happy about that, can't we? In the world of magazine scanning - this isn't a contest. We aren't competing with other sites hosting scans, and no one gets a prize for having the most scans. No one cares what is available at one site versus another - just so long as it's available. I know when I go to Retromags, I'm going to get a scan of a certain quality. The same holds true for most of the other sites that actually release new scans. Archive.org has no such standards, so in many cases the scans they host are of low quality. But if those are the best scans available, you can rest assured that I'll download them and be happy with them regardless. The Internet is a free and wide-open space, and we encourage you to visit whatever website you need to to get what you're looking for, whether that means RM, KW, OOPA, IA, or elsewhere. *Back on topic* Looking forward to seeing those scans, Scarred Sun!
  4. I'm aware - they've been there for ages. He's still got unedited raw scans there as well. I'll get to the GP issues eventually. I'm content to leave those other titles there. The only reason I bring over the Game Player's PC mags is because it's one of the handful of game magazines I can actually READ as an adult and still enjoy. They mean a lot to me. As such, I go through each page individually making small adjustments as needed. I don't know if it was the scanner used or the condition of the mags themselves, but those 600dpi issues at archive look...not so good to me. The pages are really dark. Also very brown/yellow, as if the mags were stored outside in a shed in Florida for 30 years. If you carefully compare the one I uploaded to the 600dpi version, you'll see a few minor adjustments, which to me are marked improvements. (Hopefully not in a Star Wars Special Edition kind of way.) As such, I won't be rushing through the others just to get them up here. Anyone who wants them now can get them at archive.
