  1. 8 bit: Super Mario 3 16 bit: FFIII 32 bit: Metal Gear Solid 64 bit: Not sure. So many DC games come to mind. I'm not a big RPG fan but I did enjoy Skies of Arcadia. For me, it's not really a cut and dry choice. It's really hard choosing a favorite game of any genre or system. Edit: I'll have to keep editing if you guys pick any more good ones I've forgotten about. It's the way it is with these lists for me.
  2. Great interview. That would be tough to interview such a high caliber person in the videogame industry, at least for me. I remember the first time I heard of him in an interview in, I think, Videogames & Computer Entertainment. It had a big article in it and I was fascinated by him ever since. Does anyone know of the article and which mag it was in exactly? Edit: Nevermind, I found it in an old V&CE mag I have that doesn't have a cover. Since I went through that trouble I just scanned it anyway and uploaded the 3 page interview here. No one has a cover for a June 1991 issue, I'd assume, right?
  3. I cut out soda and most junk food along with doing some minor weight training and went back to my usual lean 150lbs from 160. I don't do any cardio, I figure I get enough of that at work. But considering my job and my genes, it's not hard to lose weight. I'm probably lucky in this environment to be able to lose weight easily but if we were in a low food environment, I'd have the disadvantage. Now I just mostly drink water and coffee or tea. Oddly enough, I look better, can't say I feel better though. I miss my sweets. I think somewhere inbetween is a nice balance.
  4. My name is Tony and I'm 32, who'd a thunk it? I'm not really a part of any other gaming community because my interests are sort of sporadic. But I remember years ago downloading mags and the retromags "thank you" pic seems familiar. I figure I owe it to the community to scan off what I have when I can. Anyhow, I've moved a couple times lately and will soon so I'm looking to lose some baggage around here. I got tired of moving my vg mags along with my collection of computer mags and general books. They won't last forever so I thought I'd scan them when I have time and if I ever finish and not burned out, scan for others. I've been meaning to scan them off eventually for the site. A big thanks to all the scanners out there.
  5. So someone took a retromag release, relabled it, and downgraded the quality? See kids, this is why we can't have nice things.
  6. I read Phillyman is working on quality NP scans and mentioning torrents. I have the first 100 issue set from a torrent years ago but they're low quality with lots of jpeg artifacts. Is there a torrent of what's released so far? I have a good bit of issues from the 90's if any help is needed.
  7. Much thanks, Phillyman and Triverse. The mags keep me company on some of my insomnia-riddled nights.
  8. I think they butchered a good SF. I cringe when I see old gaming consoles "modded", same with old cars.
  9. I'm going to bump for Hidinger's questions. Wouldn't mind knowing myself. Though I've heard Phillyman is very busy so don't expect a reply soon.
  10. Old thread but has this not been scanned yet? I take it if it's not in the downloads section, it's not been scanned, right? Not sure if the downloads page is ever purged. I am uploading Issue #3 as we speak and also will do #5 shortly so if #1 is scanned we'll have the first five here. If not, no big deal, just curious.
  11. I think about all of us here have had that enthusiasm when we were younger. I'd suppose they gave us such enthusiasm with the topic and art in the mags that a lot of us hung on to them. And now being confronted with the issues of physical degradation of the magazines and lack of space, we realized digital backups were the best option.
  12. Got another one upload here. It's just a small mag that was a bonus issue for NP. I didn't see it in with the other NP mags so I scanned it. Even googled and only see one reference to it from another site so it may be kind of rare on the Nintendo Power scale. I'm thinking it's from late '99 so it may be old enough to be in the Retromag library. Still kind of pissed at my soiling some of my Goldeneye guide pages. There's a few wrinkly spots on some pages but I'm hoping the scanner may flatten them out. I haven't had time to finish it yet but I'm still kind of busy atm.
  13. I have the MarioPaint guide done, I hope. I just scanned the whole thing while I had time. If you all want to check my work and see if there's anything that could be improved, I uploaded it here.
  14. I hope someone else has a Goldeneye guide. I halted a day on the scanning half way through and for the first time in my 10 years of computing, spilled a drink on my desk. FFS, my timing sucks.
  15. Phillyman, check your pm's. My window for doing mags is kind of slim so I want to make sure you check my stuff before going on.
  16. Been googling and apparently it seems you're closer to base than I am. It seems it could be an inverter, lamp heater, or some such technical issue. It's been doing it almost ever since I bought it and other than that, it's been a great scanner as far as quality and speed goes.
  17. Unplugged the usb and power, still done it until about an hour later. Now it's working just fine. Perhaps the internal memory gets overloaded? Who knows.
  18. Scanner is Canon 8400f on Vista 64. For some reason, it keeps saying "adjusting lamp" for about a minute before scanning and before it was only a few seconds. I had this happen before and not sure why it started working at normal speed again. In between scanning the Mario Paint mag it just started doing it. Anyone have a clue? No variables changed in between the scanning, afaik.
  19. I do though I hardly remember it. I have a bunch of divx videos of it somewhere. I liked Nick Arcade mostly because I was more into gaming at that time.
  20. Mario Paint Nintendo Player's Guide, incoming. I will apparently have to debind the mag to get a good scan. I know I'm supposed to pm Phillyman a sample but he hasn't responded yet and I have a limited time which I'll be free to scan some mags for the time being. I hope my work is satisfactory. Up next is my GoldenEye Player's Guide, unless someone has already done it.
  21. Is there a list of what's here and what's not besides what's in the "downloads" section? I have lots of older magazines, mid 80's to 90's that I am willing to scan. I just don't want to scan some and find out they're already here. Ok, I looked through them and this is most of them: Game Informer Jan/Feb '93, Summer '92, Spring '92, Sept/Oct '92, Nov/Dec '91, Jan/Feb '92, Jan '94, Donkey Kong Country Players Guide Game Players Strategy Guide to Nintendo Games June 1990, Dec 1990, Vol 1 No 2, Vol 1 No 3, Vol 2 No 3, Vol 2 No 5, June 1991, Vol 2 No 4, Vol 4 No 2, Vol 4 No 1, Vol 4 No 3, Vol 3 No 7, Vol 3 No 2, Vol 4 No 5, Vol 4 No 4, Vol 4 No 6, NextGen Vol2 No1, March '99, April '99, July '99, May '99, Aug '99, Vol 1 No 1, Vol 1 No 3, Vol 1 No 4, Vol 2 No 2, June '99, Vol 1 No 2, LOZ:Ocarina of Time Strategy Guide (NP) GoldenEye: 007 Strategy Guide (NP) VideoGames - Aug '96, Jan '96, MarioMania Player's Guide Official Tips & Tricks - June 1998, May '97, Feb '98, Aug '96 GamePro - Apr '95, Apr '93, Dec '95, Nov '98, Jan '93, Nov '97 Expert Gamer - Mar 2000, Codebook 11/98, Nov '98, GameFan - Vol 3 Issue 12, Sega Visions - July '94, PSM - Jan '99 EGM - Dec '91, Nov '94, Feb '93, Videogame Buyers Guide 1998 and 1993, June '98, Apr '93, Dec '94, Jan '95, Street Fighter 2 Official Strategy Guide, Apr 2000, Aug '98 PS EXtreme - Vol 4 Issue 5, Vol 3 Issue 7, Game Buyer - Oct '98 Issue 4 Nintendo Power Strategy Guide Vol 19 Flux - Issue 3, 4 Various Pamplets and posters I've collected over the years (Confidential......Goldeneye NP, Official SuperGameBoy Guide Totally Unauthorized SM64 Guide (Brady Games) Game Players Vol 8 No 13 Mario Paint Players Guide Super NES Official Game Guide (NP) Videogames & Computer Entertainment - June '91 (No cover), Apr 1990 (No cover) Top Secret Passwords Nintendo Players Guide (NP) Rzone Strategies for Nintendo Games (Consumer Guide) Super NES Official Players Guide, Edit: I also have lots of Nintendo Power mags but they're apparently covered here. My goal is, if not for others, but for myself, transfer them to digital to save physical space. And after scanning, sell or give them away. Though I'm afraid like quantum physics, they will be destroyed in the process if I have to splice but it's fine with me as long as they won't sell for anything.
