  1. I had one and four games. Keith Courage, which it came with, Bloody Wolf, and two Bonk games. Bonk series and Bloody Wolf I loved. I couldn't understand att why the lack of luster for it when NES and Master System games had a comparably ugly color palette and sound that leaved a little to be desired. I loved the system. Not to mention, I love black and the system oozed black sexiness.
  2. Color. I love good art and eye candy in a game manual.
  3. I was about to name a couple and then kept reading. These lists always do this to me. Now I recall so many I can't choose just one. Also, Nick at Nite used to be so good and now I'm older than the shows on there. I still like a lot of the old ones they used to show like Mr Ed, Get Smart (used to watch cuz I had a huge crush on Agent 99), Mork & Mindy, etc.
  4. I would say CD-i is the lesser, imho. The rest I've played through emu's and from what I've seen, nothing really draws me to the console other than morbid curiosity. But I really haven't played these enough to constitute a real decision.
  5. Happy Birthday and thanks for releasing these, Bill. It's always good to hear from the people in the industry that wrote the columns we couldn't wait to read every month.
  6. Thanks guys. Even though I rarely post on the ads section, I appreciate all the ads when posted. Do the ads we post here have to be scanned ourselves?
  7. The Hyperspin setup looks saweet! If I done it though, I'd be tempted to go with an old crt for authenticity. I know the older arcade games didn't use a standard crt but at least it would go well with the nes and other console emu's. I still have an old 80's crt tv I found last year just to hook up my nes and atari to.
  8. I almost got around to building one. Bought the oak veneer plywood, was just waiting to come across an old PC, buy a control unit, and find an old tv. After a while, I just lost interest and sold the plywood. I'd like to but it's a lot of work and all just for imitated authenticity. I still have loads of plans in digital format for building some along with links to various control manufacturers. For an OS, I'd go with Windows XP. There's lots of various frontends you can use. One under-rated frontend is 3D Arcade which, afaik, is not in development anymore. It can function as a virtual arcade with videos of the games being played as you tour the arcade. Walk up to it, press a button, and you're playing it. If you're interested, videos can be found here. The guy must pay a fortune in bandwidth costs. But if you just mostly want utility and have a lower end machine, I'd go with another frontend. There's some that also function as jukeboxes and video players. But I've tried emulators on Linux and there's not as many and they're generally not as easy to setup.
  9. Does the info, images, manuals, etc come with the software? If so, I might try it. I'd love to have an app that had a reference to all those games offline along with images, info, manuals, box scan, etc. Sort of like GameBase but only for historical reference.
  10. I'm going to ask you a few questions, and I want them answered immediately.....
  11. As far as the image you posted, I'd crop out the edges, imho. Edges can be a distraction. Also, keep in mind that when they're in cbr format, any big differences in page height or cropping will be more obvious when viewed in double page. It's one thing I didn't think about when doing my Mario Paint guide but luckily it's not as big a deal unless the mag was made to have its two open pages coalesce.
  12. I like to but rarely do. When I do play games, it's mostly modern FPS's. I'm sort of a binger. Sometimes I rarely play, then I can go on a gaming binge and play during any free time I have for 2-3 days. The past few years, almost any retro gaming I've done is trying different emulators out on my PSP. Due to various circumstances, my older consoles are boxed up again. I'm more about preserving the old games and culture rather than still living it.
  13. Never lived there but I'm 32 and consider myself the NES generation also. That's when I really caught on to videogames.
  14. Actually, I may have lied. I think EGM may be in bigger demand. I have a Dec 1991 issue I'm thinking of scanning with Zelda: LTTP, SF2 guide, Sonic 2, Megaman 4, TMNT3, etc. Problem is, the pages are scrambled. The mag is binded and the pages are in a numerical order, for the most part, it just has pages 1-64 or so in the back of the mag and in the middle some more out of order pages. It seems there's nothing to suggest it's a new section of the mag. Is my mag messed up from the factory? It was like this the day I bought it in '91. I haven't noticed it in any of the other few EGM's I've read of the time. Is it like the screwed up coins, can I get more for it with such a malfunction?
  15. I have another one, not one I personally scanned, but it's the Official Nintendo SFII Turbo guide. Not sure if that's what you're talking about. And yw, Thor. I looked for it online also and couldn't find a scan of it anywhere else. I basically had to destroy mine to scan it but as I usually say, paper doesn't last forever. I was going to get rid of my mags anyway as long as they're digitally backed up.
  16. I use 1440 width and is what I was recommended. When you open the cbr file with winrar, do you see any images? For the image format, if your scanner uses .tiff, always use it until your edit is finalized, then save as "9" quality jpeg and bicubic (best for image reduction). That's just what I recommend and what I read here also when I first started. Scan a few then zip into cbr/cbz file, send pm to phillyman or triverse and take it from there.
  17. Well, when you get computers at a bargain, the cost has to come from somewhere. I held back on a job I was an inch away from officially being hired as a field tech working under Dell. I heard too many horror stories so I bailed last minute after getting my Dell cert. I don't regret it a bit. But regarding that, if it's under warranty, contact Dell. If not, try a multimeter and check the output.
  18. Got it done, uploading as we speak. Usually with mag scanning I try to do in one sitting but this was 160 pages and I've been kind of busy lately. My sympathies with any of you who scanned those huge EGM mags. Next up is probably more Game Players.
  19. Speaking of retro-soda's, I miss my Mountain Dew Pitch Black. Probably a good thing because I used to drink it all the time.
  20. Have at it, if you wish. I only have one GI, Vol 3, Issue 2 and Sept/Oct 1992 issue that I have and have not scanned. I'd be delighted to see some more GI's in the download section.
  21. I used to, not anymore. Like Liberator, I was into Pacman, then following that, usually whatever I caught on. My crappy small town cable co. didn't carry the SMB Super Show though I did catch the occasional Donkey Kong, Super Mario World, Captain N, and Sonic.
  22. Tons of Tandy CoCo mags and stuff: http://www.coco3.com/modules.php?name=Foru...opic&t=5002
