  2. I do not know if this is considered a Genre, but I think that trully humerous games and AO (content not just gratuitous blood/nudity) are few and far between. I use to love it when games came out simply to BE funny. For instance, Clayfighter was a horrible fighting game, but something about a Chinese cook throwing a frying pan at an evil santa made me laugh every time. Conker's Bad Fur Day - a pretty descent platformer about a squirel and magical chocolate. Funny as just about anything. People need to make more games for the purpose of being funny.

  3. I guess I'll be missing the Point & click adventures the most then. I'm right now playing Fallout 2, pretty much staying up until 12:30am trying to do all the side quests and such.

  5. I work at this store that is selling these radical new inventions that are being marketed as "Book". They consume no power, can be opened and shut dozens of times, are completely free of annoying DRM issues, can be freely traded among friends or resold after they are purchased, are tabulated with easy-to-read page numbers, and a simple receipt or even a gum wrapper can be used to mark one's place. Book is very interesting in that it is so portable, you can take it anywhere, even places you would never take your PDA or your laptop (like the bathtub), and they have good-sized margins where you can take notes. Also, book is traditionally printed on recyclable "paper" (imagine a totally white screen without the electrons!) which can easily handle underlining, highlighting, and other simple notation work with no OS upgrades or annoying system software to get in the way. Once you have your book, it is yours and you can do with it as you like--it's just like getting access to the source code with every purchase! Perhaps the coolest thing about book is that it is available in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours, styles and formats which allow you to tailor each book you purchase to your personal needs. They store easily on convenient shelves or end tables that you already have in your home, and can rest flat or stand up without damage. For instance, if you enjoy pictures of trees, there are literally hundreds of different book available with different pictures, stories and information. Plus, for the super creative, you can even go so far as to purchase BLANK book! These are book that you yourself create, by adding your own words and can function as an offline, eco-friendly blog that can be passed around to co-workers and friends alike. Imagine getting all the tools to create a killer application with one simple $5 purchase, and you can see why blank book is the way of the future. And it can be a lucrative business: the best book creators get to make millions of dollars "writing" book for other people to enjoy! With no batteries to charge, no AC adapter cords to mess with, and no screen to scratch, book really is the next technical marvel of our great society. So support your local book store, and when your co-workers ask what you are doing when they see you leaning back in your chair, you can tell them that you are an early-adopting beta-tester of book: the hottest thing to hit the streets since crack cocaine. But if they want to borrow yours, tell them to get their own book. WARNING: Book is one of the most addictive substances imaginable, especially when combined with such other product as "warm bed", "soft blanket", "curled up puppy", "cup of caffeinated beverage", and "quiet rainstorm". Know what you are getting into before you take the plunge...to book! *huggles* Areala

  7. Finally a new Official Sega Saturn Magazine scan! Been a while and progress was extremely slow once I got back to editing again, but I'm slowly starting to pick up where I left off. Now lets just hope my editing skills haven't degraded too much since last time. And that all the retard pills* I needed to take haven't impaired my judgement too much. As always: enjoy! *Retard pills are the actual ones I had to take in the hospital, and yes I know what it means in french. Official Sega Saturn Magazine 032 - june 1998 (UK) Download page here. 8. I finally... finally beat Final Fantasy I. What gave me that final push to beat it was my reviews on my blog. I'd hit Nintendo Power's either 3rd or 4th year, where they were alternating standard issues with strategy guide special issues. So, I was reviewing the featured games in the strategy guides, and I'd hit the Final Fantasy strategy guide. Thus, I knuckled down and in the course of 2 days, finally beat the game (I was almost done anyway, but I didn't know how close I was to the ending.)

  9. Dune 2000 is quite good too, it's a PC game, but it's also available for the PS1.

  10. You sound like me. I too can't stand sports games. The more 'arcadey' kinds I can play, like the old Blitz games, SSX, or Punch-out (if that counts). But once you get into more of a simulation it all goes downhill. Same with racing games. I used to play Turismo but after part 3 there was too much of a focus on tuning your car and passing the tests, neither of which I care to do. I can't stand console FPS's. Like them on PC, hate how bad analog sticks are compared to M/KB. MMO's feel like glorified chatrooms to me, not games. The reason people play them is just to hang out and talk to friends. Fighters are pretty lame, there's too much memorization required to enjoy them, the only exception for me was Soul Calibur. And one more I used to enjoy but not so much these days are RTS's. I did find Red Alert 3 cheap for PS3 so maybe I can get back into them.

  11. I feel like I have to start off with an apology yet again. (seems like this is becoming a recurring event...) I certainly wasn't planning on taking this much time to release my next scan, so for the people who have been waiting for it, I'm really sorry it took this long. Several things came together and created a situation where I didn't have time to do everything that I wanted. Working on a yet to be revealed web project that is taking lots of time to get it just right, starting on doing quite a bit of renovation work on my house, and when that was just about done I got around to after a long wait finally being able to pick up a brand new 46" plasma along with a PS3 and soon to be Bluray home theater system. So you can imagine after the weeks of slaving away clocking up 16-18 hour days most of the time, I needed some relaxation time so I could enjoy my new toys. The next issue (which starts off the Radiant Silvergun coverage btw) looks to be in pristine condition, so the editing work should be minimal compared to issue 30. The biggest time was probably spent on getting the Grandia Guide looking as good as new again, so I hope you enjoy it. There's so much good stuff in this issue that I won't even bother naming it, as it would end up being about half the length of the table of contents. So without further adieu, let me present you: Official Sega Saturn Magazine 030 - april 1998 (UK) Download page here. Rapidshare link
