Do You Own A Modded Console?
Nesseight replied to Phillyman's topic in Current Generation Video Gaming!
I'll mod my Wii when there's something that'll retain all of it's normal functionality as well as allow me to install a real operating system rather than that ugly, featureless jokeware. I don't like my computing hardware being designed to lock me out and give me minimum functionality. I don't tolerate it from my PC and I won't tolerate it from a console... Other than that, I've never really modded a console unless you consider a Gameshark Pro in the parallel port of a Playstation or in the game port of a N64 connected to a PC via cable a mod. That's removable, though, and I never used it for anything that would be considered "illegal" unless you count a screen-shot of Resident Evil 2 as copyright infringement, or searching through memory addresses for just a little more ammo as "illegal reverse engineering", or dumping the ROM of a cartridge to a file then distributing it on the Internet "piracy". Just kidding about the last one, I didn't even realize that was even possible until years later when I read about it somewhere. I always thought copying hardware devices would be the size of, well, a Xerox machine. -
Gameboy had a good run, but it's games didn't have nearly as much blood as Virtualboy's.

I used to have a Saitek P880, it was pretty good in my opinion (for the few games where I would actually use it), it kind of resembled the PS* Dual Shock, only the model I had was wired (GOOD!) and didn't rumble. Recently, I purchased a Gamecube controller for my Wii at Walmart. I was shocked to discover that they carried a PC USB adapter for $10. It's by Gamemon and works great... when the game I am playing detects the damn controller... It allows me to have up to three controllers connected to my PC!.. if only I had a PS2 and XBOX controller to fill those ports............. It supports rumble, but I think it's lacking something on my GC controller... I've never owned a Gamecube, but aren't the L and R triggers supposed to be pressure sensitive? Anyway, I've had/seen plenty of new PC joysticks by reputable brands that pulled to the right or have some similar problem. I've never seen a fidgity console joypad, however.

I went ahead and gave it a shot myself. I don't know if they are still needed or not, I'm assuming so, though: Most of the above images unnecessarily use the entire 256 color palette and could be optimized not to by using a pixel font, hardening the drop shadows, and slightly jagging the borders as well as making better use of transparency so the images could be used with dark skins, but I don't know how many similar images are already on the forum or how bad these would stand out if they were even slightly different. It's not that big of a deal, but if you start get umpteen thousand visitors per day it might be worth considering to shave off a few megs monthly.

Wow, I used to read your site back when I played n64 because Dangerous Waters/Gameshark Magazine and the official 900 number just couldn't quite change the entire face of a map in Goldeneye like your credited, creative hackers could (along with those on Code Master's site). I'm glad to see you guys are still around.

I like those little breath mint things. They are mintier than toothpaste to the point where you can't taste anything else after just one drop unless it's the alcohol itself, which has the distinctive taste of 100% pure alcohol. Fifty of them will fill a shot glass almost half full, and your breath will be so minty and reek with alcohol that you better avoid breathing fire, but your insides will hurt so much that you will think that you're about to spontaneously combust anyway. Imagine Peppermint Schnapps, only ten thousand times stronger.

Keyboards can get pretty dirty, you can't really get them clean without popping off the keys, vacuums and compressed air can only do so much but that'll probably just trap the dust under the actual key. If I didn't have a Logitech G15 I would probably just say screw it and get a $10 cheapy every time it got dirty. The G15 is worth cleaning, though, I can press W, D, and E at the same time without my system beeping, and each key registers.

I'm going to assume that your ADSL modem is external, gets its signal from the telephone line, and that there is no port for Cat-5 (ethernet) cable that allows it to connect to the WAN port of a router, forcing you to use USB or something entirely proprietary for PC Internet? If you didn't already buy a wireless router, you might want to ask your ISP if you can use a modem that is also a router such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16825112006 If you already have a wireless router, you'll need a better modem that does support the Cat-5 standard such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833109018 I suppose it is possible to share the Internet connection if your PC has a spare ethernet port, or use an old PC as a router with something like Smoothwall, but wouldn't you rather have a device thats sole purpose is to grant you reliable Internet connectivity without relying on the state of your PC? I do make a lot of assumptions, though. I don't have an XBox, I do have cable, my modem does support Cat-5, it connects directly to a wireless router, and my Wii detected my router the second I plugged it it and I can play any net-enabled games free of additional charges, and I am guessing that an XBox would work equally well once I shelled out my hard-earned money for it's imaginary, non-Internet providing pseudo-ISP so I could have the honor of playing GoW and Halo 3 before selling it while it's still popular so I could begin saving early for Halo 4 on the XBox 720!!!

I no longer have a Nintendo Power subscription and probably haven't for over 10 years so I can't say I'm 100% certain, but I'm 99.9% certain that it's some kind of split-off that focuses on either Gamboy Advance, or Nintendo handhelds in general.

Only certain types of toothpaste, and I'm not sure which ones. Obviously you wouldn't want to use Crest Pro-Health because it's gritty, therefor bad. Anyone know a way to buff the disc non-abrasively so it's not thinner or more scratched up than before?

For data storage I would rather buy a cheap hard drive, and for video I seriously couldn't tell the difference between DVD and it's alleged successors on my ancient television. Hell, I don't think I would even notice it on my 19" Trinitron monitor other than a slightly bigger window, it isn't like DVD is choppy with horrid sound quality. I still watch some movies on a VHS and the only reasons I truly like DVD more is because you never know when a VHS player will get hungry and eat your favorite tape, plus you don't have to rewind a DVD. Not because it's 5% less blurry than tape, that's retarded. I don't know if the majority of people would agree with me, probably not, but I consider Blue Ray and HDDVD betamaxed. I wouldn't pay $250 for a "writer", let alone a player, and you're telling me it hasn't even come down to that yet? I paid less than $30 on newegg for my CD/DVD combo writer and less than that for a stack of 100 TDK DVDs. I still have blank DVD's remaining, and haven't burned a single coaster. Redundant overpriced technology that serves limited purpose can go to hell. There will be 3DTV before I pay more than $100 for a glorified flip-book.

I have the DKC2 cart and in fairly good condition, but my broken 640x480 camera's 2MB memory card is missing and I don't have a scanner anymore. From what I can tell, however, the art is pretty much the same on the box found at thecoverproject as it is on the label. If it doesn't have to be an exact copy, it might be a good idea to redo the text on the top of the cart so it's vectorized and will print at the best quality possible. As far as redoing the art itself as someone suggested, that might be difficult on that particular game if doing it by scratch. Though I'm sure there's lots of posters and magazines and other material that would have the main characters from that game suitable for scanning.

I'm sure they will design a guitar game that looks and plays just like the real thing some day. Sadly, I'm also sure it'll cost more than the PS3 costs now. Personally, I can't even get past a song in OoT without trying 10 times, though, so Guitar Hero would kick my butt regardless of what incarnation it is, LOL.

It makes one wonder just how many rip-offs are on eBay at any given time.

That's the most ridiculous advertisement I've ever seen o_O I'll stick with corn cobs.

Spambots are irritating, some even have the audacity to post, generally objectionable content. Notice that nobody seems to have a friend who's a spammer? That's because 1). Spammers have no friends, and 2). Even if they did, they would get the stuffing kicked out of them by that friend, and lose that friend should that friend find out such a dark and disturbing secret.

Unless, of course, google accesses this post through it's googlebot cache using the key words "google ads" which would likely find such requests on any site that has them. For this site, it can be found here (bottom link, as of me posting): http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=googl...G=Google+Search Anyway, I clicked an ad . I wonder, do you let the search spiders into your premium forums, too?

I usually assume that the rules on any forum are like that when they first start... until they turn elitist and allow some people to get away with breaking the rules while punishing others... then the forum either turns to anarchy (anyway), irrelevance, or dies completely (which is almost always for the best in those worsed case situations). Now that you have those rules, you must enforce them with an iron fist even if the infraction was committed by your best friend, otherwise nobody else should be expected to respect them, and nobody will once they get a sniff of favoritism or elitism in the air (then again, people who donate should always be favored over mere plebeians . Also, what's your policy on reviving dead topics, even with relevant replies? ** swallows lump in throat **

google, it sounds like a bot to me, had a few advertising poker on my forum a while back. I wound up installing a mod that added a field to the registration form asking "are you human?" which defaulted to no and stopped registration if non-yes. However, this was a publicly released mod, and some bots were able to get past it, and my forum is much smaller so you would probably be better off hand-making your own security check and keeping it private to this forum so if anyone wanted their bots to get past it they would be targeting this forum specifically. One thing I noticed while browsing the database, is a lot of bots had the same password hash. Other bots had the same URL in their profile (to raise their master's search engine stats, no doubt). Made for easy deletion. Russian email addresses can be generated, but so could hotmail, gmail, yahoo, and thousands of other less-known, less secure free services.

I'm done buying Star Wars movies after the disappointing DVD original trilogy with BunchaCrap? Sorry to say it, but Lucas has lost his touch and shouldn't hack up the original trilogy which he made at a time when the circulation to his head was pristine. The prequel trilogy was a flop and I don't want to see elements from it in the originals anymore than I would want to see Zelda Animated Series or CDI scenes while playing Zelda 1. In this case it's far worse, it's canonical and no amount of re-releases will make Star Wars seem cool to me again. :@
