  1. My sincere congratulations, RD! You deserve it. I can't name anyone else that's done more work on indexing magazines then you for the entire year. In the meantime, I am looking forward to 2015.
  2. Happy Holiday of Your Preference too!
  3. My mistake. I presume that the people running the magazine asked you to kindly please not archive our magazines or we'll sue you for every penny you've got?
  4. A suggestion: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Game-Informer-Video-Game-Magazine-Fall-1991-1-FIRST-1st-PREMIERE-ISSUE-/191445658877?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c930cecfd The first issue of GameInformer.
  5. I like it because it allows your new system to play the games the old one could, which is useful if you don't have enough money to spend on a new version on that old console in the future, or if that old console is, say, sold or breaks at some point. I will agree that a console should stand up on its own merits - but the way I see it, backwards compatibility is one of those merits, it's not necessarily a make-or-break deal, but it's definitely a good, and useful option.
  6. I ask because I have found a tribute website for the German edition of the British Nintendo magazine TOTAL! from Future Publishing. The link is here: http://www.totalmagazin.de.vu/ And I can't read German, though I am aware that the German TOTAL! apparently ran up to 2000. Something to add to the database, Phillyman? EDIT: This website also has links to a German Nintendo Power as well as this website: http://www.kultboy.com/which could be very useful if you read German as it seems to also be archiving info or maybe scans - again, I can't read German - so that's there if you can read it.
  7. Some information on Ultimate Gamer that I've found: It was one of the few video game magazines back in the 90s published by Larry Flynt publications. It had a pretty decent group of talent, including Frank O'Conner - the same one that worked on a Xbox Magazine before joining Bungie and then 434 Industries - and lasted only six issues, though I'm pretty sure that it wasn't intended to last so short. Rather interestingly, when the magazine was cancelled, the message in the issue said this: ...whereas with other magazines it might be a postcard in the mail or the realization that an issue hasn't come in a few months. Say what you will, but Flynt Publications was good to subscribers. At the very least, they didn't go down the EGM route by replacing it with issues of Maxim. It premiered in July 1995 with an initial cost of $4.99. They said that one magazine described itself as the gaming bible (Next Generation) and then made the rather bold claim of "introducing the New Testament." Though in actuality, it seems to be more of a cross between EGM and DHGF trying to be NG with attitude. ...and that's about all I can find.
  8. Happy to help Yep! Plenty of sources, so I gave them credit. Wonderful site, Sega-16, for such a good history of Sega Visions. I was actually contemplating just copy-and-pasting it, but that would be blatant plagiarism. Thank the gods for the Internet. I'm hoping to do a few more magazines histories - in particular, a wonderful British magazine from the incredibly obscure Rapide Publishing called TOTAL CONTROL. There's virtually no information on the 'Net for it, but I'm scouring it for whatever I can find to come up with as good a history as I can, though it will still be pretty sparse. You could say the same for Rapide Publishing. Virtually nothing on the 'Net about it!
  9. Neat! I'll definitely being doing a spot of work here. Right now I'm going to be working on a history of Sega Visions - I mean no offence, but the history that is there (which I've seen on a website titled gamingmagz.com) is poor, lacking in detail, and in a few places, inaccurate. Update: The history of Sega Visions on Retromags can be found here, as written by yours truly.
  10. That must have been a sight to see, and I'm sure it was very frustrating at the time. No spam - excellent. I'm quite pleased that it's not be spammed or abused, a close eye is an eye that is peeled. (this message brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department, which brought this message to you) I have to say that between just about everyone here, small in number though we are, the database is progressing marvelously.
  11. You have to admit that the databases are reaching quite the impressive amount of content. Actually, in some ways I'm shocked that there aren't people filling it with links to unreputable websites or spam, or trolling it with fake content and information. I suppose it shows how good the - admittedly small - Retromags Community is. I am eager to see what magazines you'll be scanning, Phillyman. Given the wide variety of stuff you've been sending out as part of the Retromags contest, I imagine that you must have quite the collection and assortment of magazines from various eras.
  12. I got the third issue of the Team Sega Newsletter as my prize. Thank you again, Phillyman.
  13. Yup, everybody indexes things differently. Some begin with a listing of primary systems coverage, with semi-detailed overviews of what each section entitles. Others start with a list of what's inside. I do it the way it's originally presented in the magazine contents page - with only the text in the magazine there. The result is that my indexings are somewhat sparse, and dry, but you get what's originally there, if not the details of what each section means. Unfortunately I can't help you on the issue of cover images as I don't have enough magazines to scan cover images... Well, theoretically, I do have enough, but most if not all of them already have the cover image linked. --HOB.
  14. I have gotten... Volume 4, Issue 1, of Super NES Buyer's Guide! A definite suprise. Thank you again, Phillyman!
  15. Yup This time I'm hoping for DieHard GameFan, if they haven't been snapped up. Oh yes, I've forgotten... what I won last time is the January 1990 issue of GamePro. The text is a lot larger than I imagined... and it's saddle-stitched, too! Shock!
  16. I got the January 1990 issue of GamePro! Yazoo!
