  1. I don't remember that one very well, but here's a Wikipedia link for anyone who's interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamefan.
  2. I'm actually surprised that it doesn't have one built in. Microsoft has tried such things before (weren't they behind WebTV?). Also, with both the Wii and PS3 having browsers, you'd think that they would want to keep up with the competition.
  3. I can help with distribution but I don't have a ton of time to devote to it. It would help if there was a way that I could be notified when an issue is uploaded to the FTP and ready for distribution. Is everything labeled as 100% in your Work In Progress thread available on the FTP? Also, are we doing away with the editing process and just releasing raw for now?
  4. It's been a little over a year since we discussed the next generation video formats on this forum. When we last talked about it both formats had just been released and the consensus was that it's best for people to wait and see how the format war plays out. From what I hear around the net it's looking more and more like Bluray is going to come out on top. The relevant facts are reviewed at TheDigitalBits.com in this article in which they predict that if there is a clear winner, it will be Bluray. Personally, I would like to own an HD player but they are still too expensive for me. I'd probably go with Bluray and I might even go the PS3 route in spite of my general dislike of Sony. Ideally though, I'll wait until players hit the $200/$250 mark. Also, I have a massive DVD collection. I am perfectly aware that the next gen video formats are backwards compatible but I find myself wondering what I'd re-buy. X2?: Definitely; Ernest Goes to Camp?: Probably not.

    I Got A Ps2!

I went with Jak 2 instead of 1 because I had just picked up some component video cables and wanted to test out the progressive scan function. Based on your recommendation I'll probably pick up Jak 1 before Jak 3 as I'm more a fan of classic platforming myself.
  6. I'm starting this thread to allow people to submit interesting stuff that they've found on the web for other Retromags users to see. It's kind of like Digg.com but not nearly as sophisticated. So here's what I've found lately: Squid Cracker Review This is just hilarious. It's also interesting to check out some of the other reviews (especially the asian crackers) but this one is the funniest IMHO. Will it blend? This one came to my attention recently because they made a video of a guy running an iPhone through a blender. THere are videos of all kinds of crazy things being processed by a super-powerful blender. Entertainment at its finest! It would be painful to watch but I'd like to see him blend some Nintendo stuff, like an original Game Boy or a DS or an NES controller.
  7. We had a good thread going for monthly purchases in April but we failed to keep it up so I'm starting this one to catch up. So what have you gotten lately? I got Jak II for PS2 but that's really it. I'm planning to buy Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80's in a week and I'm hoping that will hold me over until some of the more interesting Fall releases start coming out (Metroid Prime 3, Dewy's Adventure, Zack & Wiki, Phantom Hourglass...).
  8. R.I.P. Gameboy. I hope that Nintendo gets wise to the idea of a Gameboy compilation on the DS. How cool would it be to have about 15 or 20 first party GB titles on a DS cart? My list would be: Super Mario Land 1 & 2 Wario Land 1, 2, & 3 Tetris Link's Awakening (with DX or original option) Kirby's Dream Land 1 & 2 Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Land 1, 2, & 3 Pokemon Red/Blue Pokemon Gold/Silver Alleyway Solar Striker A compilation like that could provide tons of retro handheld fun.
  9. A good idea. There are probably also a lot that aren't spambots but are people who joined and then forgot or lost interest. This should help to clean things up.
  10. I reported the auction to eBay customer service as a sale of an unauthorized copy so hopefully it will be removed. I've made similar reports before when people tried selling xeroxed SMB3 player's guides.
  11. It might actually be cool to see a compilation of classic board games on the Wii. Something like Clubhouse Games could really be fun if implemented with online connectivity, good AI, and interesting use of the Wii remote (motion controlled die toss!!!). There's no way I'd fork out $40-50 for Wii Jenga though.

    I Got A Ps2!

Well, I finally broke down the barrier of my Nintendo fanboyism recently and got a PS2. The decision was spurred by Guitar Hero 1 and 2 as well as Katamari Damacy. In addition to those games I also picked up Jak II. Does anyone have other recommendations for must have PS2 games? I'm considering checking out Final Fantasy X, Jak 3 (after I finish Jak II), Ratchet and Clank, and Kingdom Hearts. I'm not really into FPS or sports games but a good racing game might be fun.

    What Interests You?

I voted GamePro. I'd like to see the missing NP stuff released but I'm pretty satisfied with what we have so far. We're also facing increasing competition from independent scanners releasing material at google as evidenced by the release of GamePro 1997 there on 7/3.
  14. I'd also recommend WarioWare as it makes the best (or at least the most versatile) use of the new controller.

  16. Sounds like a good idea to me. I could contribute to the site and have the chance to win a little something extra for myself in the process.
  17. To quote Homer Simpson: "It's funny because it's true."
  18. Those look interesting. They must have been released alongside NP rather than before since Dr. Mario, SMB3, and the Power Glove all came out after NP was officially started. Still, they look cool and publications from that time span are pretty hard to find. I'm looking forward to seeing them scanned and distributed.
  19. Wow, I had no idea that there were any pre-fun club publications. I'd love to see that!
  20. I guess that if there are any of these that I would qualify for it would be Distributor. I have a decent ISP upload speed (90 kB/s up), I have experience creating NFO files, and I know how to create torrents. The things that I don't know include using Newsgroups and Rapidshare.
  21. Cool. I'm still seeding the large torrent (with some of the fun club issues, NP issues 1-45, and some supplements but a lot of missing stuff) and I've been hoping for a more organized re-release so that I can let that one die off. I've uploaded a total of 168 GB on that one. That's in addition to the 190 GB uploaded on the 1988-1998 yearly sets. My uTorrent window is getting cluttered. Also, It would be nice if we could get a golden torrent on google. Not only is it prestigious but golden torrents tent to be much more likely to survive and be well seeded.
  22. Definitely an improvement. The difference in color between the two Top Gun images is most impressive.
  23. You should be able to get all of the releases at undergroundgamer.com. I have been seeding there for months. Send me your e-mail address via PM if you need an invitation.
  24. There's a rumor up over at IGN that Nintendo Power will soon either stop publishing new issues or undergo a major restructuring. Will we soon be talking about having a complete set of all 20 years of NP? Original story here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/788/788281p1.html
  25. That reminds me, don't bother trying new Miller Chill if it's available in your area. It's awful stuff that doesn't even taste like beer. If you like those fruity tasting malt beverages then you might enjoy it but if you are looking for a good new beer, look elsewhere.
