    Wii Preordering

That's OK. I was actually sucessful in placing a preorder at Gamestop this morning. I have just returned home feeling very triumphant as I was one of the lucky 12 people in line who actually got to preorder. About 20 people were turned away. I entered the mall as soon as the security guard unlocked the exterior doors at 8 AM and waited for two hours in front of the store. There were about four people who somehow got there before me. I preordered the Wii, an extra remote, an extra nunchuck, a classic controller, a 2000 Wii points card, Zelda, Excite Truck, and Elebits. They were only allotted one extra controller per system. I plan to use my Best Buy gift cards toward extra remotes later. I am one happy man!

    Wii Preordering

Update: I'm going to Gamestop this morning to try to place a preorder. I can always use my Best Buy gift cards toward controllers or games as BB is less likely to run out of those.
  3. I'd just like to share a URL with you all: http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/ It's a group blog that compiles Wii related news from around the net and I have found it to be an excellent source for news updates, rumors, game footage, etc.

    Wii Preordering

Has anyone heard much about preorders for the Wii? Word on the street is that Gamestop/EB Games are supposed to start taking preorders today (10/11/06) but I have $80 in Best Buy gift cards that I'd like to use so I'm hoping to pre-order there. Any inside info Philly?
  5. I have access to a capture card now. I just need to get around to capturing them.
  6. I'll definitely be in line on launch day. I've been saving up for a while. I also sold my Classic NES GBA on eBay and got $80 in Best Buy gift cards with my credit card reward points. I almost have enough to get the Wii, 3 extra Wii-motes, one extra nunchuck, a classic controller, Zelda, ExciteTruck, Elebits, and a component video cable.
  7. I can't imagine that Nintendo would let their library of classic GB games fall into obscurity. At the very least they should release a compilation for the DS.
  8. Hells no. Most people I know prefer a card or something like that to expensive junk that they'll never use anyway. Maybe your friends/family are the same way.
  9. Good idea. This topic has been pinned.
  10. In May a large torrent containing issues 1-145 of Nintendo power (with some missing issues) was released. At that time it was suggested that all previous torrents (including the one to which you are referring) should no longer be seeded. This large torrent is still available and you can dowload select issues from it if you wish. Your two options are to find it on mininova.org or at a private tracker called Transexual-Underground.com. PM me with your e-mail address if you would like an invitation to Gay-Porn.
  11. Retromags' policy is not to scan anything that was published less than five years ago.
  12. Holy hell, that's a lot of magazines!
  13. My plan is to be in line on launch day and to pick up the console itself (along with everything that comes packaged with it of course) as well as 3 extra Wii remotes, Zelda, and Excite Truck. Wii!!
  14. I saw this over at TVshowsonDVD.com today: Shout! Factory hasn't formally annnounced the set, but they have plans to release Captain N: The Game Master in a 4 disc set on February 13, 2007. The series follows Kevin Keene and his dog Duke as they're transported to another universe where Nintendo games are real. They join forces with Princess Lana, Simon Belmont, Mega Man, Kid Icarus, and Gameboy as they take on Mother Brain, King Hippo, the Eggplant Wizard, Dr. Wily and Count Dracula. The set will be packaged in 2 double-disc thinpaks, along with an 8 page booklet; retail is $34.98. Here's the source: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6419
  15. Here it is: $250; November 19th. This is according to an article in the New York Times, as reported by IGN. This means that it's not directly from Nintendo but Nintendo is expected to announce details themselves today. Wii titles are expected to cost around $50. Some of the following is copied directly from IGN... The console will come bundled with a copy of Wii Sports, a compilation sports game that best shows off the mechanics of the system's unique controller. Wii Sports features tennis, baseball, golf and previously unannounced bowling and boxing games. Wii's much talked-about Virtual Console download service, which enables gamers to purchase classic games, will offer a library of some 30 titles when the system launches. Titles will include entries from the Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong franchises. Virtual Console games will cost between $5 and $10 each. Specifically, Nintendo announced that Virtual Console games would cost $5, $8 or $10; we're presuming these prices are for NES, SNES and N64 games respectively. Wii's various controllers will be available to buy separately at launch. The Wii remote will cost about $40; the nunchuck about $20 and the classic controller about $20. Time to start saving some dough! The countdown begins: 66 days to Wii!
  16. In response to gameguy: It probably won't be priced at $200. I would imagine that the price point will be closer to $100-$130. The six movie/two TV series/14 disc ultimate Planet of the Apes box set that came in a big replica ape head sold for around $120 (I picked it up for $85 ) so I can't imagine that the price of the Star Wars set would be higher than that since it will likely have less material as well as a wider market. As far as the issue of rereleases goes, ideally, a high quality product will be released to begin with. Sometimes rereleases are a good thing. Technology advances and therefore allows for better picture and sound on more modern releases. Also, extra bonus material that was not included on previous releases can be added for a rerelease of a film. One of the best examples of a quality rerelease is the Criterion edition of Dazed and Confused. Universal released this film on DVD back in 1998 when the DVD format was young. The picture was non-anamorphic widescreen, the transfer was decent, the sound was Dolby Surround (2.0) and there were no extras. Later Universal rereleased it with improved picture (anamorphic; new transfer) and Dolby 5.1/DTS 5.1 sound along with a few paltry extras. This version was dubbed the "Flashback Edition" and it wasn't really that great of a rerelease. Finally, Criterion cane along and released an AMAZING 2 disc DVD set with a spiffy new anamoprphic transfer that was made under the supervision of the director, excellent sound (Dolby 5.1 and DTS), and a wealth of bonus material including a great commentary by the director, deleted scenes, out takes, production notes, and cool new packaging. I'd take the Criterion release any day, even over the barebones hi-def version that Universal has planned for the not too distant future. With the original Star Wars trilogy, I just want a good quality version without the crappy new effects. I refused to buy the compromised version that was originally released in 2004 and I refuse to buy the discs that were released yesterday that have a poor quality transfer of the original films included as a "bonus". I also didn't buy episode 3 because I'm waiting for the big box to eventually be released. As a collector, I love comprehensive box sets and I love quality so I'll wait and wee what happens with the big set when it finally comes out. I may just cave in and buy the compromised versions or I may stick to my guns and resist the power of the dark side. Since Lucas hasn't recieved ny of my money foir these films yet, I won't feel bad about finally buying them when an acceptable release comes along.
  17. If someone has relevant novel information to provide about an older topic or is just new to the forum and wants to revive an older topic for discussion, I see no problem with this.
  18. The best public tracker is probably http://tracker.prq.to/announce. I still seed to that one from time to time in order to keep it going.

    Tv On Dvd Poll

Just curious about other people's collections. I am a major collector of DVDs myself. Here are the complete TV series that my wife and I own: The X Files Star Trek: The Next Generation Star Trek: Voyager Monty Python's Flying Circus The Office (UK) Dark Angel Freaks and Geeks Buffy: The Vampire Slayer Planet of the Apes (Live action TV series) Return to the Planet of the Apes (Animated TV series) Futurama Home Movies Invader Zim The Critic Undergrads Mission Hill The Brak Show Cowboy Bebop Several of those were short lived series (1-2 seasons). I also own many seasons of shows that are still running or have not yet been completely released on DVD. Here are some highlights: Seinfeld: Seasons 1-6 Married with Children: Seasons 1-5 ALF: Seasons 1-3 The Cosby Show: Seasons 1-2 Lost: Seasons 1-2 Newsradio: Seasons 1-4 King of the Hill: Seasons 1-6 Family Guy: Volumes 1-3 American Dad: Volume 1 The Simpsons: Seasons 1-8 Animaniacs: Volume 1 Pinky and the Brain: Volume 1 Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Volumes 1-3 Sealab 2021: Seasons 1-2 Harvey Birdman: Volume 1 The Venture Bros.: Season 1 Star Trek: The Original Series: Season 1 That 70s Show: Seasons 1-3 The Muppet Show: Season 1 and of course... The Super Mario Bros. Super Show: Volume 1 There are several I won't bother to mention and a lot that I just have copies of (DVD-R or XviD) too.
  20. That is really great news. Fun club issues are ultra rare. Can't wait to have HQ scans of these.
  21. What he said. I burn VOB files with Nero 6 and ISO/IMG files with ImgBurn.
  22. The general policy is to scan everything including the ads.
  23. The idea was to stay 5 years behind the current issues of Nintendo Power. I believe that everything in that range has been scanned. I don't know about the stuff that was missing from the big torrent though. Those who are more closely involved with scanning (Philly, 420, etc) may be able to better answer your question.
  24. For the Star Wars fans out there... The Digital Bits' rumor mill recently reported that Lucasfilm is planning a box set for release next year that will contain all 6 Star Wars movies. This will correspond with the 25th anniversary of the first Star Wars (later re-titled "Episode IV: A New Hope"). As you might expect from Lucas, further revisions will probably be made to the films. You can read more about this HERE. As usual, I have mixed feelings about this release. Lucas can't seem to leave his films alone and he won't release a good quality DVD of the original original trilogy (sans all the new effects). On the other hand, I have been looking forward to the 6 movie mega-box for years. One cool thing is that the box is supposed to contain a lot of cool extras that have previously been held back. Unless you unquestioningly love everything that Lucas does with these films, I'd suggest waiting for details on this release before getting too excited.
  25. Because Blazer asked for Wii launch news in the shoutbox... Nintendo recently announced that they will be holding 3 press events on September 14th in Japan, Europe, and the US. It is expected that they will use these events to announce Wii launch details for each respective market.
