  1. Count me in as a scanner for sure. I too contribute scans to another site so am very happy with Phillyman's openess regarding making them available elsewhere. I am on Underground-Gamer so if I can get my head around making torrents I could probably help out with uploading of our mags over there. Or with seeding etc ...
  2. DON'T DO IT Fusoya .... I repeat .... DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!
  3. Ahhh .... I see .... this site is focussed on "Video Game" magazines only. That would explain why the covers I submitted for the Antic magazine never got used in the Wiki. No point continuing down that path then as they couldn't really be considered a gaming magazine as such. Neither could the Amiga/Atari Format mags I have been scanning of late.
  4. I think I was the only person who had sumbitted manuals .... in my case for Nintendo 64 games & Atari Computers. As a result of our "conversation" recently along the 2000 rule Phillyman took them all down. That was before the reorganisation of the site into USA vs Non-USA categories so I think he just never recreated the Manuals category. Shouldn't think it would be too difficult for Phillyman or Meppi to re-add the category though which would be good as I have been going through the N64 manuals to see which don't break the y2k rule etc and as a result can be resubmitted.
  5. Hahaha ... there's a post here about who was born in the NES age. Anyone into BBS's was likely born in the Pre-Pong age. I certainly was. I remember playing Pong, Atari's Anti-Aircraft, the mechanical shotting games and yep ...even the black and white Space Invaders with coloured cellophane across the monitors. Ahh the good old days ....
  6. I have an original Star Force arcade PCB serial number 24554. Lovely 3 layer set which alas doesn't work. Will have a better look at it when I have more time. Meppi's right though ... nothing plays better than the original ... but as they die over time it gets harder and harder to not resort to emulated versions as the difficulty in keeping the orignals working increases.
  7. Now THAT is a good move by Nintendo. Playing the original arcade versions of games is much nicer than the console conversions. Ooeerrr .... imagine Alien the Gun using the Wiimote as a gun. That would be cool if they could do it.
  8. Ahh ... the good ol' BBS. Hehe ... most people around here were probably only a twinkle in their Dads & Mums eyes when BBS's were all the rage in mid to late 80's.
  9. Just bought another load of arcade pcb's locally and got a few 100% working games to go into my cab .... Robocop, Quarth, Cadash, Silkworm, Wild Fang, Stinger, Crime City & a couple of others. Also got a couple of classics including Terra Cresta with minor graphic glitches and also a heap of PCB's not going. Owning them allows for their use legally in a MAME cabinet & at $2 each I'm not complaining at all. Somewhat of a nice feeling knowing the game you are playing is legal.... I might be visiting my brother in MD this year too so if I do I may be doing a bit of arcade PCB buying while over there to add to the collection. :-)
  10. Of course it is a poor excuse. Let's face it ..... anyone who takes from a site and doesn't contribute back to in any way other than posting to a forum now and again is an out and out user. You can try and sanitise that comment by saying they MAY speak to a friend who has a friend of a friend that can provide scans etc but it rarely if ever amounts to anything going by what I've seen on a couple of other sites I frequent. Expecting these types of people to cough up a donation to the site when they can just spam the forum to get what they want is unrealistic and Phillyman and Meppi are fighting a battle they can realistically never win trying to keep these people under control. Doesn't mean they should stop trying though. Personally, I think donations are a poor way to contribute to a site. Sure, the funds go to paying for bandwidth/ mag purchases or whatever so the donater may feel good with himself but truth be told most people don't use a donation from a site contibution viewpoint. They use it as a purchase option... in this case for 8GB's of magazine scans. It's almost 100% guaranteed that they dont own the original magazine therefore are probably committing a crime depending on the laws in your locale. New people scanning magazines, covers for the wiki etc is far, far better for the long term growth of the site. How many people contribute magazine scans? 10? 20 max? Imagine what could be accomplished with 10 times that many sharing the load? Here's hoping we dont burn Phillyman or Meppi out with all those new donations.
  11. Not if you have a decent tablet laptop I don't have one myself but after having a play on the new HP I am making that my next laptop as the touchscreen folded flat makes using it perfect for using as an electronic magazine.
  12. Oh .... I just thought putting a Paypal donate type button beside the Downloads link on the top menu would highlight the option nicely. I didn't realise they were actually different things. Sorry .... my bad!!!
  13. Unfortunately it wont stop the kidz who dont have a PAYPAL account or access to Dad's credit card from spamming as they have no other method other than creating or replying to posts to get the required number to change their status. I always thought the main problem with this site in regards to donations is the PAYPAL donate button is right at the bottom of the home page so its visibility is limited by the necessity for a visitor to scroll down the whole page. Maybe it would be more visible at the top of the page somewhere? Considering how long the homepage here gets at times ...... Just a thought though.
  14. First RPG game I played and actually enjoyed was UFO - Enemy Unknown ... well I THINK it's a RPG anyways ... Latest one I've played is Battlefield 2 where you use a RPG to destroy tanks and helicopter gunships :-)
  15. I'd go with Jackal ... my favorite Arcade game of all time. I had the arcade conversion on my Amstrad CPC & I saw it on the C-64 and the NES version absolutely blew the old PC versions out of the water. Until MAME came along of course. I bought the JAMMA board for my arcade machine ... nothing beats the real thing ... but the NES version still makes me smile today how good a conversion it really was ....
  16. I use plain old photocopy paper in my colour laser printer as it's very cheap compared to inkjet printing. Others use glossy stock via inkjet printing at a higher unit cost but the results are very nice. Depends on budget and your ability to print at the end of the day.
  17. That customer friendly service might be seen in the USA or Japan where Nintendo has established their own Company itself as the distributor but in countries like New Zealand where they use 3rd party companies as their importers/distributors I think that type of experience just isn't going to happen. I had a PAL Nintendo 64 cart die on me .... Mario Kart from memory .... and even though the box had lifetime warranty written on it the local distributor wouldn't replace it etc so I had to buy another one. I was the original purchaser & still had the receipt etc at the time so it wasn't like I was a 3rd party purchaser etc. True ... I never sent the cart off to Nintendo themslves but I shouldn't have had to as the local distributor should have honoured the warranty being Nintendo's Representatives in this country. I guess the difference is Nintendo is big in the USA & Japan while sales in New Zealand were rather small so the local distributor didn't really have much to lose by sticking to their guns from a negative publicity point of view etc.
  18. Just compare it to the competition. Nintendo release the NDS. Nowhere near the therorectical power of the PSP but the battery lasts for a whole lot longer than the PSP's anaemic battery & they put out ALL their major players on it. Mario Kart, Super Mario, Metroid etc ..... and it sells by the bucket loads. I consider the touch screen a nice little extra. It opened up other avenues for games like Nintendogs etc but it would've done almost as well without it when you look at most of the games not even requiring its use. And then there's the fact Mum & Dad could upgrade their kids to a new Nintendo and yet they could still play their old GBA games from their previous Chrissy presents. While the power draw on GBA games is more than NDS games from what I've heard they still run longer than the PSP and its crazy power requirements spinning up a UMD all the time.
  19. I absolutely loved the Dreamcast. Killed 2 through over-use [damn those GD-Rom drives to hell]. I bought a heap of SEGA produced games for that thing. I was crushed when they dumped it & never bought anything of theirs again as I didn't get into either XBox or PS2. I went backwards to N64 I wonder how many people had the same experience as me?
  20. Geez .... $40mill unsecured? Is that a seperate Company? If it is they will be packing themselves over this I bet....
  21. Same issues in my part of the world when trying to get something like a box cover printed at the local printing houses. I had to take my N64 cartridge in once just to prove I owned it and they grudgingly printed the cover off. So I just bought a colour laser printer and presto ..... the problem was solved
  22. This article reminds of another device for mutual ...er .... well .... anyways .... check it out at http://www.welookdoyou.com/fufme/index.shtml.html .... only for Windows 95, 98 or NT though ... LOL

Will keep an eye for them .....
