  1. I'm still using your one with the magazine piccies around the outside .... altered slightly to reflect the type of magazine being downloaded That one is nice I must say ......
  2. I think you get the same access to download limits if you scan and upload a magazine which I am sure would be preferable for the site but some people dont have scanners, magazines etc so the donation thing helps those people out. Mind you ... upload a mag and you qualify for premium member according to the FAQ and yet here I am .... a lowly Team Member ... and I lost my nice blue Scanner button ..... sniff sniff ... whats up with that? ROFL .... who gives a sh.......... as long as you can download a few files here and there eh
  3. I think Phillyman prefers files that you have scanned yourself as he prefers not to be accused of stealing someone else hard work. Saying that ..... where you may have hard copies of a set of mags but are missing a couple which are now impossible to attain I think it is okay to fill in the blanks with one procured elsewhere BUT it would be important to state where the item came from in the description. Take a look at Computer Gamer Issue 001 in misc section as an example where the World of Spectrum website is credited for the raw scans.
  4. I was 1 when JFK was assasinated and I remember running home from school to watch Neil Armstrong step onto the moon so I guess that makes me pre-NES-storic. In fact pre-pong even.
  5. I have a raft of issues of Amiga Format from Issue 2 onwards on my shelf at present which I am toying with scanning. I also have a large pile of Amiga World magazines but they are square shaped and wont fit on an A4 scanner so they will probably never get scanned as I simply cannot afford an A3 scanner. Also have some Super Play mags in the same boat along with the later Amiga Format's as they increased the size of those too :-( I also have approx a dozen ST Formats and 2 ST Amiga Format issues as well along with another 15 odd Computer Gamers. Lots and lots to scan. Sigh!!!!!
  6. Great to see you shifted the Atari stuff into a new "Hardware" area. Let's hope others contribute their console manuals etc. I have a Amstrad CPC664 manual I found somewhere which I will add as well. Just need to tidy it up a tad ...
  7. Hmmm ..... I would say 1. Super Mario 64 2. Mario Kart 64 3. Wave Race 64 4. Pilot Wings 64 5. Banjo Kazooie 6. Goldeneye 64 7. Snow Board Kids 8. Turok ...... are the games I kept going back to time and again and 9. Conkers Bad Fur Day 10. Donkey Kong 64 ...... the last two I'd consider without having really played either too much. I just never got the whole Zelda thing .... dunno why .... but never could get enthused even though I had both in my collection.
  8. Well .... as long as they bring posts relevant to the site that's great. Comments like "I agree" or This rocks" etc don't really add much to a post do they? The problem is that the people who stumble onto the site and are interested in what it represents will end up contributing actively anyway. I can't remember how I ended up here, but once I saw the goals of the site it made me want to contribute, although I must admit the lack of comments on submissions threw me a little bit. But I'd rather have one comment from a Retromagger genuinely interested in my work than 10 from people who are just waiting for the next release and want to know when it will de done.
  9. Yeah ... I honestly think it is worthwhile scanning and saving the old hardware manuals from being lost forever. Some of these things ... the Atari manuals & catalogs in particular .... are just great. One Atari catalog I have shows Computers they made but never got into production so they are also glimpses into what might have been and is worth preserving just for that aspect alone. And no other site seems to have done this before so it would make a nice addition to this site. Surely making these available is just one more reason for visitors to check the site out? Making a seperate Hardware Manuals section will streamline this stuff out of the Misc section which could get cluttered as more of this stuff comes online. I still have another 6 Atari manuals to scan ....
  10. Very nice indeed. I am using it on all my latest uploads but slightly modified. See if you can pick what's different
  11. Well .... a search of Google for Atari Owners Guide now places Retromags at the top of the search results which is great but I have amended the headings to include "Manual" as well so we get seen on that search as well.
  12. I Scan I Compile & create I Upload Says it all really
  13. Hi everyone ... I have been uploading hardware manuals/catalogs for the Atari 8-bit range of computers that were sold in the 1980's. The reasons are twofold... 1. These are from my personal collection and as far as I can tell NOT available anywhere else in complete form on the Internet. 2. Anyone searching for these "should" see the site listed on Google as a result of making them available here thus bringing in more visitors and hopefully contributors to the site. However, I was thinking that it would be great if we set up a separate section for hardware manuals rather than in the Misc section where people could contribute manuals for the older PC's ...Atari ST, Amiga, C-64 etc along with the consoles. Personally I'd love to see a SNES or PSX manual as I've never seen one and again it might encourage more visitation to the site. Some of these items are works of art from manufacturers long since gone and deserve to be preserved as much as any publication. Just a thought. Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?
  14. I am currently building an arcade machine from scratch. I have based the design on the old Taito Trimline cabinet .... http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&am...030ℑ=1 .... but instead of the 12" tube I have adjusted the size to incorporate a vertically oriented 19" LCD PC monitor. To get the monitor to synch to the 15khtz output of the JAMMA harness I have a RGBS to VGA convertor. I have Raiden Fighters and Contra PCB's and the output is stunning on the LCD. This will make the cabinet a lot lighter and easier to move around while avoiding the color issues associated with tubes and also removing 25,000volts out of the cabinet. I will probably build a second unit for horizontal games if this one works out well as I have created MDF templates, making it easy to replicate. Other games I am interested in? Gauntlet .... fab fun with a couple of mates around UN Squadron or Carrier Air Wing Top Gunner .... my favorite game Frogger ... soo simple Gyruss Bombjack Qix Jungle King .... this was cool in the local arcade until Taito withdrew it due to a lawsuit over the Tarzan resemblance Geez .... there are so many more I like. Maybe I should just MAME the arcade machine with a J-Pac?
  15. Yeah ... but conversing with people genuinely interested in the site & topics is completely different to talking to people saying any old thing just to get a download. As I said before ... I dont care either way ... I contribute scanned/completed magazines so I dont need to bolster the forums with messages just for the hell of it. Although as someone who has asked for comments on whether it is worth scanning a particular magazine before and never receiving any feedback from anyone I do understand Phillyman wanting to get more participation from people .....
  16. Personally, I think posting just for a download ratio only really encourages those people who have no vested interest in the site either from a contribution or enthusiast point of view. By that I mean people sign up, post, download and move on. Is that what we want? Look at it another way ..... Phillyman made the total contributions to the site available via torrent on Mininova where the bandwidth is shared across all those downloading and is that still torrent still well seeded? Last time I looked it wasn't ....showing people generally just grab and run. So why make it even easier with the added "benefit" of a cr.pload of inane comments in the forums? I cant see this type of person contributing raw scans, completed magazines etc so it ultimately benefits no-one else. Doesn't worry me one way or the other but that's just my opinion.
  17. Oki dokey ... I'll leave that one to you. How do you scan oversize magazines? Do you have an A3 scanner? Those Nintendo Super Play mags are oversize and dont fit onto the A4 scanner properly. Same for my Amiga Format magazines of which I have quite a few. As I cannot afford an A3 scanner .... who can? .... due to ridiculous pricing for A3 capable equipment .... I may have to trade them off instead.
  18. Just going through my magazine rack of old stuff I found this old thing ..... Anyone interested in it? Wont waste my time scanning if it isn't particularly wanted. Also found some Super Play magazines but they're too big to scan on my A4 scanner
  19. My faves were Soul Calibur Powerstone 2 .... a blast when friends were over House of the Dead 2 ..... I had 2 guns .... Skies of Arcadia Virtue Tennis I also had some frantic button bashings with the Marvel vs Capcom games as well. Miss my Dreamcast ....
  20. Sorry if I sounded a tad grumpy but the lack of feedback makes it hard to know where to concentrate ones efforts on. As far as the World of Speccy stuff goes .... I only obtained issue 1 off their site as I have a significant portion of the rest and where I do have the original magazine I am scanning those in preference to using other peoples scans as I have better control over the quality etc. I did upload the Issue 1 copy after cleaning the WOS scans up etc but somehow it died in the process and never became available on this site and Phillyman didn't look into it so I was unsure whether to try again or not. As a 40+er I am more interested in the older magazines having grown up on Atari/Amstrad/Amiga's etc and there is a distinct lack of contributions in these areas. So I thought my concentrating on those area's would be beneficial ... but the lack of feedback makes one assume it's a wasted effort on most of the people visiting the site.
  21. Wow!! Obviously no-one around here has much interest in anything other than Nintendo Power or EGM going by the total lack of interest. Being an old school gamer I thought some of my older stuff would interest people around here. Obviously not ... Seems like all the effort in getting these old Atari & Amiga magazines/manuals etc scanned, edited and turned into cbr's is a waste of time as a result. So while I will continue to work on the Owners Guides for all my Atari Hardware as it's a pet project of mine I am forthwith stopping work on all other magazine creation. That includes a couple of issues of SNES Super Play, EDGE and some other old Commodore Computer oriented magazines. Bye.
  22. Just an update to say where I am at ..... Currently I am scanning Computer Gamer ..... Issue 19 Antic Sept 1985 ..... Atari Magazine supporting 8-bit Atari's Amiga Format ..... Issue 3 ... along with a heap of my original Atari Owners Guides as no-one has PDF/CBR'd these and some are works of art from the old days and a shame if they disappear. I dont know if these are required here but if anyone wants any I am working through guides for ... Atari 800XL Atari 1200XL [Done] Atari 130XE [bIG!!!!] Atari 1050 Disk Drive [Done] Atari 1010 Program Recorder Atari 1027 Printer Atari XC12 Program Recorder [Done] 2 Atari Catalogs. One of these has photo's of Atari Computers that were advertised but never made it into production. Cool stuff indeed.
  23. I would say that Nintendo has the worst .... Virtual Boy[Geez!!] .... along with the best .... N64. Actually ... they have the best now with the Wii because I can play the main games I loved on the N64 & SNES on it. If they could get Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Goldeneye and Pilotwings64 on it I could sell of my N64 without a single regret.
  24. I think ..... and it's hazy being so long ago .... that it might have been Amstrad Action followed by Computer Gamer .... or maybe vice versa. I know I had just purchased an Amstrad CPC but was also playing around with the in-laws Atari 800XL and he subscribed to Antic about the same time. Actually, I might still have a few of those around somewhere :-)
  25. Add Banjo Kazooie & Pilotwings 64 to that list
