  1. The subscriber covers for NP were generally pretty awesome.
  2. Not one of NP's best covers...so cluttered!
  3. Haha, I remember this issue coming out around the time where a lot of gamers were complaining that Nintendo was pandering to "casual" gamers and families (hence the "Old School Cool" title for this issue, to reassure "hardcore" games that Nintendo still cares about them!). Too bad that the Wario game didn't seem to really take off.
  4. This is the first NP that I ever read and bought! I never did buy DS FFIV, though.
  5. Too bad that the Sonic RPG would have some of the worst music ever.
  6. The first issue with EIC Chris Slate (and Future ownership). Still a great magazine, though.
  7. Nintendo Power gave NiGHTS a 9.0, if I'm remembering right. NP (or at least Steve Thomason) really loved SEGA games!
  8. I remember DS Final Fantasy III! It broke my soul and spit on its corpse. :( That PMD comic was pretty good stuff, at least.
  9. This was a good era for Nintendo Power, these 2004 to 2006 issues. But, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever read a bad Nintendo Power issue, and I've read MANY issues.
  10. If I had to guess, probably May of 2016 (with the ten year thing and all). Start marking your calendar!
  11. This magazine had an interesting history, judging on the covers (and their various re-designs) alone.
  12. I wonder if this is the only magazine cover that Poshul the Wondrous Pink Dog ever graced?

    PSM Issue 082 March 2004

    ALL-GIRL WRESTLING
  14. Guys, the FFVII guide is SACRED. You really should read it if you haven't. Thanks for all the awesome work, John!
  15. Ah, Game Center! Yeah, it isn't bad, and it's free, so there's no point in not getting one each month if you're a Wal-Mart shopper. I remain a bit worried concerning EGM, though. Whenever I see this topic bumped, I wonder if it's because EGM has closed its doors for good. :(
  16. I wish I could help you, dude, but I haven't a clue. Swami Gabe almost sounds like a GamePro name, but I don't think they had any specific editors (at least any named ones) handling the letter/fan mail section. All I can do is suggest that you look through magazines online from the N64 time period. At the very least, there are quite a few GamePros and EGMs on the web. Even if you don't find what you're looking for, maybe you'll still find something interesting!
  17. Excellent! More early Game Player's is always nice (mostly to see how it used to be before it went crazy and wacky in the later issues). Keep up the rad work!
  18. Follow your dreams, dude. Two dollars an issue and free shipping...that may be as good as it gets if the issues are in decent condition.
  19. Ooooooh, I LIKE this thread! Let's keep it alive. Interesting choices! I'd put the reboot version of Game Players (the Slate era and the year or two before Slate took over as EIC) in Tier 2, though. It had a lot of personality and generally good writing. GameFan's Golden Era was definitely Volume 4 and early Volume 5. I also really like Next Generation, and it's probably a testament to their writing that they rank so high. For example, Game Players and GameFan were great magazines, but I also remember them for their writers and their personalities. Next Generation was one of the magazines that did not say who wrote what article or review (unless said writer was a guest star columnist), so the entire magazine felt like a single, official sounding voice rather than a ragtag group of game journalists and enthusiasts. And their voice was appealing. Had it not been, the magazine would have crumbled sooner. Also, yeah, GameFan DID score games too high (Bubsy 3D, Metal Head for the 32X, and several others...). Their enthusiasm made them hard to hate, though. A shame that some of Halverson's high scores in Play Magazine were accompanied by petty scorn directed towards other reviewers (the prime example being Golden Axe: Beast Rider). GameFan definitely was a good source for Japanese game news. On a side note, am I a bit odd for thinking of GameFan as a Nega GamePro? They both had aliases for their writers, GameFan loved RPGs while GamePro generally shrugged them off, GamePro was very child-friendly while GameFan was a bit edgier, both magazines are fairly polarizing, from what I've read (you either love or hate them)...it might just be me, though. Oh, and awesome first post, Anthony.
  20. ...that...is the worst looking version of Alex Kidd that I've ever seen.

    Retro Magazine Issue 006

The expression on King Graham's face is both the best and worst thing ever.
  22. Oooh, Turbo Force IS a nifty little magazine. And WOW, I know the guy interviewed in that Fanzine section! Someday...I will get one of his old fanzines.
  23. Can't wait for the PSM issue! It's an interesting magazine. Hope to see some VG&CE next (especially because some of the issues have a Fanzine section, and video game fanzines are seldom mentioned on the Internet save for Digital Press).
  24. That's...quite the cover art! I'd be interested to learn more about this magazine, although my bilingual skills are garbage. Maybe I can try to improve my minimal Spanish knowledge with Spanish-language video game magazines...
  25. Unfortunately, not often: my PS2 is broken (thanks to a friend) and my Sega Genesis (both of them...would the plural be Sega Genesi?) and Atari 2600 are at my mom's place. Still, I'd never get rid of them.
