  1. I always hated getting those orange and black wrappered things that somebody else posted a picture of above. Ironically, I would eat them first, just to get rid of them.
  2. Secret of Evermore wasn't one of the most popular titles of the time, but was certainly worth playing. You bump into Cecil from Final Fantasy IV (he is running a weapons shop) and travel around different eras in human history. I really enjoyed running around the market tracking down the items that the philosopher sent you on a wild goose chase for...I may be mixing up that memory a little.
  3. Nobody will support me on this, but I use to love an old NES game called Vegas Dream. It was a Casino game, but with some added flavor. Strangers would approach you and depending on your luck and how you responded, they would cost you money or make you money. I always wanted to see a game like that which a little more complexity. Of course there was Vegas Stakes for the SNES, but that game didn't have all the features that Vegas Dream had. It's time for a sequel!
  4. I don't understand why nobody talks about remaking Final Fantasy IV or VI. I realize there is the IV DS game, but outside of that...we need a good console re-envisioning of these titles.
  5. TMNT - Turtles in Time is probably the best "beat-em-up" from that era. It is an almost perfect arcade translation. What a great game. This would be another good one to appear on a mini-SNES!
  6. No doubt more could have, and should have, been done--and sooner too. Regardless, at least something was done and the mini-nes is a very nice step. At least Nintendo is supplying a legitimate controller with a tight list of quality first party and 3rd party games that includes very little fluff. It is true that if they were a little more interested in catering to their "base," (as the politicians say) then they may have considered almost doubling that games list, including ne'er English released Japanese titles (translated, of course) and making the library expandable. Oh well. I will probably buy one anyways to indulge when I visit my girlfriend on weekends and she has to work. I don't tell her what I do during those hours of course. She doesn't need to know about me and the NES, so try to keep it on the DL . Thanks!
  7. At least once a year (approximately), I play through Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3. Doing so is effortless and relaxing. I've been playing Final Fantasy 4 (2 if you prefer) once every 2 or 3 years, but haven't in a couple. I have not once played through Final Fantasy 3, completely, since the first time I finished it back in 1994, so maybe the next time I play through a SNES RPG it will be FF3. The game I play most regularly is Command and Conquer. Specifically, I play the final GDI Mission where the player begins in the upper right of the map. To me its like meditation. My aim is usually to get through the stage without losing a single unit or building.
  8. Yes, they will eventually all be held or destroyed a market for them will cease to exist. Probably they will be reinvented to exist in new internet-ie ways.
  9. Forgive me for putting multiple games of same series in, also for cheating with a compilation listing... 1. Final Fantasy 3 2. Final Fantasy 2 3. Super Metroid 4. Legend of Zelda - Link to the Past 5. SimCity 6. Super Mario All-Stars + World (Smb, Smb 2, Smb 3, SMB World) 7. Secret of Evermore 8. Chrono Trigger 9. Super Ghouls and Ghosts 10. Illusion of Gaia
  10. I could not figure out how to knock out King Hippo. No amount of experimentation would show me the way. I had to ask other kids at school to figure it out. Sad but true.
  11. 1. Zelda 2 2. Final Fantasy 3. Super Mario Bros. 3 4. Ninja Gaiden 2 5. Dragon Warrior 6. GI Joe 7. Double Dragon 8. Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom 9. Vegas Dream 10. Punch-Out
  12. I appreciate what you are doing with that console TV, but if you can afford it, you should consider updating it with a nice Sony Trinitron. I do believe they made them in cases as well. My 32" Sony Trinitron is about the best Tube-sytle tv you can get for authentic retro gaming in my opinion. It's a trade-off though. If you want a more nostaligic experience, you may want the tv that you remember using when you were young.
  13. As long as ghouls and ghost is on the list, it has some credibility. Every game in that series is extremely difficult.
  14. I am a purest, I like to play the games in their original glory, even on HD. The playstation ones graphics seemed excellent back in the 90s. Today, it seems to me like a 3D NES when played on an HD TV. I like that though.
  15. Ninja Gaiden 2 was one of my favorite NES games. The action is so quick and the game is difficult. I would always feel so cool playing this game when I was 10. The narration is one of the most polished for an NES game too.
  16. I like the themes and the graphics were good back in the day, but in my opinion this game has not aged the best. Maybe I'll give it a solid play through one day, but traditionally I can barely progress for more than an hour.
  17. Final Fantasy is a different game entirely without random encounters, but I don't think its terrible to add options to breath new life into old video games. Whats left of these old 50+hour monsters but to hack them up and let players experience them in pieces?
  18. There are tons of hardcore gamers using primarily their PC's and and their have been for years. You just don't hear about them because they are enjoying themselves so much, they do not go outside. Seriously though, there are many. You might consider to PC gaming to be the height of "hardcore" gaming.
  19. Everybody remembers the playstation as this great moment in video games. My opinion of the whole thing is that it diverted us from a much more glorious path! Imagine if Sony and Nintendo were cooperating instead of competing...damn we'd have had some great titles. Really with that SNES CD thing would have materialized.
  20. Im including sports titles and PC Ports that I enjoyed back in the day, so sue me... 1. Final Fantasy 9 2. Metal Gear Solid 3. Resident Evil 2 4. Final Fantasy Tactics 5. Suikoden 6. Command and Conquer Red Alert 7. Xenogears 8. Saga Frontier 9. NFL Gameday 97' 10. NBA Shootout 97'
  21. I was literally just thinking about this the other day, and I too am quite fond of MK2 (so far as MK games go, anyways). And while I agree with most of what was said, we diverge some, when I say that MK3 was better than MK2. The desolate backgrounds don't bother me, but with combinations an expanded character set, and more backgrounds, the game was the last one to press the series forward.
  22. Nintendo should have done this a long time ago. Hopefully the to this with other Consoles would love to see an Snes with Super Ghouls and Ghosts, SimCity, Final Fantasy II, III, ChronoTrigger, Link to the Past, Mario-All Starts + Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Contra, and Super Castlevania 4. Tons of other great titles to add to the list, but that seems like enough.
  23. Clearly the NES stands out. The Snes was a great system that lots of people played too, but I feel like the Turbografx-16 and accompanying CD hardware was somewhat more influential, after all, the Turbo predated the SNES, was the first CD based system kick started a decade of market innovation. The Playstation was the huge end result. Hmm. After that, ps3, I guess.
  24. Stayed a friends house around 6 years old and played battle tanks on his 2600 in the basement.
  25. Big Trouble in Little China with Kurt Russell seems eerily similar to Mortal Kombat. I wonder if it inspired some of Mortal Kombats artists. I know its not really based on a video game, but Big Trouble in Little China is my favorite move with many similarities to a video game. Theres some kind of connection there!
