I'm Selling a Ton of Old Video Game Magazines on eBay
twiztor replied to aloram's topic in Buying, Selling, Trading
scan the cover. find someplace free online to host pictures. i generally use photobucket.com it's free & easy to set up an account and then you can select that scan photo to upload. post the link here, or message it to Eday or whoever, and boom! done. -
thanks for the kind words everyone! made it myself. just cut a bunch of 2"x2" squares of construction paper and glued them on poster board. super easy and it gets lots of comments! i have a really cool plan to display the Atari games, although it will be awhile before i get around to it. i'm going to build a wall-hanging shelf to hold them. the stacks of games will form the Atari logo. it looks really cool in my head, but my construction skills aren't always up to my imagination's levels, so only time will tell. if/when i get it finished i'll be sure to post more pics. not much into RPGs but definitely plan on picking up the first Dragon Warrior game at some point. i've only had a SNES for a short while so i'm still in the beginning stages of the collection. no knobs on the tv. no complaints here tho, since it came free with the house!

the "how often do you play your old consoles" topic got me thinking and feeling nostalgic, so wanted to share pics of my gameroom. my basement is cut directly in half by the staircase. on one side is my bar and the other side is games. here's a wide shot, showing the couch, console TV and the shelf i built to hold my NES games. also noteworthy is the pixelated Luigi art behind the tv and a Hylian shield/sword display beside it. a closeup of the TV so you can see the systems that are hooked up. i'm working on building a corner shelf to house the atari, to give the other systems room to breathe. and here's a picture of the shelf with my Nintendo games (168): stacked on top are the SNES (8) and Genesis (7) games. both of these collections are growing and will need a shelf soon.to the left you can see my R.O.B. with a plush Mario. the box they're sitting on houses the Atari games (approx 60) hope you enjoy!

yep, agreed on all accounts. i still watch the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania every year (actually i'll miss the Rumble for the first time this year) and every year i was getting upset at the terrible booking decisions they were making, pushing the wrong guys, etc. that i really felt personally insulted every year. now that i'm a few years divorced from paying attention to it, it is just a source of amusement at how bad they do EVERYTHING. i find WrestleMania WAY more enjoyable with a few stiff drinks and no vested interest than i had in years. the Rumble is still fun, just to see who will come out next. the winner is usually eye-rollingly obvious, but it's the journey that matters, not the destination. the last wrestling thing that REALLY got me interested was in 2005? 2006? when they had the first ECW One Night Stand tribute PPV. easily the best show they'd put on in years. i think they tried to bring ECW back as a "brand" the following year and it was all sorts of terrible. for the last couple years, i've actually gone back and am watching the attitude era in real time. every monday night, i watch the corresponding episode of both Nitro and Raw. i catch Thunder and the weekend shows when i can, and the PPVs at the time they happened. i started with the first Nitro (september 1995) and am now up to January 1999. it's a hell of a thing, reliving memories, discovering new favorites, and just having a new outlook on angles and talent. re: Captain N. yeah, i have NO idea how they messed up all the video characters on that show. Kid Icarus adding "icus" at the end of all those words doesn't even make sense, but it makes me laugh so it doesn't bother me. always liked Mega Man's voice tho, so as far as i'm concerned that's how he should sound. i've got no defense of Belmont.
-
i still love the Captain N cartoon. i've been watching it as recently as this week. i wish Nintendo would release Amiibos of Captain N and Simon Belmont so i could complete my collection. another old school wrestling fan checking in. if it's any time between 1985 (first WrestleMania) and 2001 (death of WCW & ECW), i probably love it. stopped following the current stuff about 2005. still have a bunch of friends into it, so i am able to keep tabs on what's happening.

finished Rayman Legends last weekend. finally got a NES controller for my PC so got around to playing (and beating) Abobo's Big Adventure as well. amazing game. going to start my playthrough of Zelda: Skyward Sword tomorrow.

haven't played Mythologies yet, i had ordered it off eBay literally the day before i was reading all the MK posts. Runts are still around. they're smaller and a hard candy. the Oompas had a shell but were a chewy candy. yeah, the 7up gum had a juicy 7up center so you got a squirt of it when you bit into it. i remember loving them, but what the hell did i know, i was 7. re: MK9. pretty sure i've got no system that will play it. the only consoles i've got that aren't retro are PS2 and a Wii-U. looking forward to getting and playing Mythologies tho, will definitely chime in once it shows up at the door. whoa! i forgot all about the Mr. Bones candies. used to LOVE those things.

on the candy tip: not really that old, maybe 10 years ago, but i've really had a hankering for these lately: i only remember the 7-up version of this, but maybe others remember the rest: can't remember if this has been mentioned or not: and finally, one of my favorite commercials ever:

MK2 was my first *REAL* exposure to the series. i had heard of Mortal Kombat, but no place near me had the arcade machines, and none of my friends had it. it seemed like MK2 was EVERYWHERE though, and i instantly fell in love. Scorpion and Johnny Cage were always my favorites. MK3 was a let down for me because of the roster. both of my favorite characters, along with Reptile, were nowhere to be found. never played Ultimate MK3. got back into the series with Trilogy (N64 at the time, though i now own both versions). having all the characters from the outset was all i cared about. just purchased MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero off eBay. i remember LOVING the idea of it when it came out, but was pretty underwhelmed by the actual game. a friend had it, i never owned it, so i thought it was time to re-evaluate. i have literally not played a MK game newer than Trilogy. the move to 3d turned me off and the constant influx of new characters makes it damn near impossible to jump back in.

i have the Mega Man 2 'Worlds of Power' book and i can honestly say i never noticed that he didn't have a gun on the cover. i mean, Mega Man's not supposed to carry a gun anyway, but i never gave it a second thought. i'm totally going to read that book sometime this week just to see how bad it REALLY is. haven't read it since i was a kid.

i pledged for the digital subscriptions. this magazine is fantastic, and offering a pledge-exclusive on a Zelda issue was the deal-sealer.

not a fan of Link's hair. i really like the style tho.
-
one of my all time favorite shows. probably #2 behind Seinfeld. easily the best sketch comedy show of all time. man, i LOVED my Muscle Men when i was a kid. always liked the colored ones better than the fleshtone ones tho. tried google to find a picture of my favorite one, but didn't see it in the dozens of group shots i looked at. he was purple, tho.

not to derail the topic, but i just like to point out the difference between the band. (for those unaware, not you specifically Areala) the original Van Halen lineup had Diamond Dave with his flamboyant outfits and actions along with Eddie Van Halen's amazing guitar solos. Van Hagar had Eddie and Alex decide to use more keyboards and focus on more ballads. They were hugely successful. i always found it odd that Sammy Hagar, known for his screaming vocals, joined a hard rock band and it became much softer, through no fault of his own. not sure why it bugs me so, but i always feel the need to differentiate the band from itself.

i wouldn't say older reviews are "more accurate", but maybe "more honest". as stated, nostalgia and hindsight both taint the overall view of a game, for better or worse. if you grew up hearing about how amazing Altered Beast for the Sega Genesis was, and then played it and felt underwhelmed, you'd probably rate it a bit lower since it didn't live up to your expectations. Likewise, if you've never played Ducktales for the NES and never really heard anybody mention it, you might rate it super high when you reviewed it, thinking you discovered some lost classic. both reviews have their place, and no reviewer is "right" 100% of the time because it's all subjective.

of course by "Van Halen" you mean "Van Halen 2" or "Van Hagar"

fun but pretty easy. i'm used to playing NES games, so the challenge level on this is ridiculously low. it makes some neat use of the Wii-U's gamepad, which is nice since most titles mostly ignore it. there seems to be a ton of unlockables and collectibles, so if that's your thing it will keep you entertained. Also a really good variety of levels, so you never really feel like you've done all this before like with some platforming games.

Skee-Ball is my favorite non-video game to play in arcades. i have seriously thought about making my own Skee-Ball setup for my basement as well. still might some day.

TMNT: The Complete Classic Series Collection (DVD)
twiztor replied to Phillyman's topic in Daily Deals
they should release the entire series of Transformers in one set, with an Optimus Prime two-piece box. the dvds would all fit inside the trailer. the cab portion would actually be an Optimus Prime transformer. i already own the Gen1 set, but i don't think i could stop myself from ordering that one. -

TMNT: The Complete Classic Series Collection (DVD)
twiztor replied to Phillyman's topic in Daily Deals
OMG this is an incredible deal, especially since it's the Turtle Van collection. if i hadn't already spent my fun money for the month, i'd totally jump all over that. -
i read the Ultimate History of Video Games earlier this year. it is a fantastic read, compiled by someone who has a tremendous love for the industry, and featuring interviews with DOZENS of important creators over the course of it. My wife asked why i was reading a college textbook as a flipped through it, because it is formatted in such a fashion. but don't let that scare you off. it is definitely a fun read and chock full of awesome tidbits and interesting stories. http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-History-Video-Games-Pokemon--/dp/0761536434/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1450076927&sr=8-2&keywords=history+of+video+games

How much would you pay for 136 of first 150 NP issues?
twiztor replied to RexRogers's topic in Magazine Talk
that could be an incredible deal, especially if it includes the posters and various giveaways the mags came with. and, like Phillyman said, if they're in good condition.
