Yeah. I have had no problems what so ever with my 8800 GT. I think the review you are reffering to is a little harsh on the 8800GT. I don't know though. If you are worried about saving a little money you can't go wrong with the GT. I stand by my statement that the 8800GT is the most bang for the buck. But if you are wanting to keep it for another 5 years and have enough room in your price cap for the upgraded graphics card, then I say go for it. If you do get the Graphics card you were speaking about then you want to make sure you have the proper monitor to work with it. I have seen a lot of people with awesome graphics cards and monitors that can't even come close to the resolution the graphics card is trying to pump out. I am not sure of your case setup but you want to make sure you have proper cooling with the setup you are looking to buy. I know the new Radeon's run a little hot. So you will want to make sure if you go that route that you have at least a front, back, and side fan. I have noticed some slight drop in detail with the 8800 GT when I am running HD at full screen (wide) 1900 resolution. It isn't enough to really bother me, but I would be lieing if I said it wasn't there. So I guess if you have the extra money to spare try the Radeon out. I know there is a huge debate over ATI / Nvidia but I have heard good things from both of the cards the Radeon HD and the 8800 GT. YES...a quadcore 2.7ghz processor is OVERKILL for Sims 3. Actually it is overkill for 90% of the games out there. Unless you plan on playing Age of Conan with everything full, you won't need that kind of work power. Actually most operating systems (Including Vista) still don't know how to properly use a quadcore. Most can barley get a good useage out of a dual core. Down the line though you will be much happier with the quadcore. I am jealous. I broke down and bought my dual core like 3 days before they announced the quad core. Installing the processor really isn't as difficult as it sounds, although it can be scary as it is the easiest thing to mess up. 1) Make sure you have the proper side down when you put it into its socket on the mother board. There should be a little cutout on the processor so you can't put it in wrong (unless you force it really...really hard). 2) Put the thermal paste in the center (about a pea size) 3) Put the fan flush ontop of the procesor. You want to make sure the thermal paste does NOT squirt out the sides or come to the side of the processor. If this happens you could cause a lot of problems. 4) Make sure the fan is screwed (or tabbed) into place properly 5) Make sure the fan is powered up. Your mother board should do the rest. I would suggest finding a motherboard bios update as soon as possible as that will help you get the most out of your hardware. If the Motherboard doesn't recognize something properly then it will never get used properly.

I guess I will try to help a little. I have a degree in computer engineering and have to build a computer for someone about every few months. 1) Try to stay away from Vista. You are much better going with XP right now. Espcially if you can get the XP setup for multicore processors. There are still way too many issues (in my humble opinion) with Vista to make it worth it. I have an unopened copy of vista I use as a paperweight. 2) You really can't go wrong with the Nvidia 8800GT graphics card. I still think it is the best graphics card for the price. I run a dual monitor setup (So I can watch a movie on one monitor while playing a game or something on the other monitor). and it does the work perfectly. 3) My computer is currently only runing a dual core processor and it will run the Sims3 just fine. Besides, with 6GB of RAM you should be fine. I like your choice of motherboards, I have never had a problem with any of the ASUS boards I have bought over the years. Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound is the way to go on the processor compound as well. I don't know if you have done a processor replace but there are several things to remember. 1) Keep the thermal paste cool. I keep whatever extra I have in the fridge (wierds the wife out but it needs to be there). 2) Only put about a pea sized drop in the center (Not on the side with the components) you want to make sure that the fan piece that slaps down on it sticks and gives enough thermal paste to distribute the heat. If you turn the computer on and it works for about 30 seconds then goes off, it is probably an issue with the thermal paste. Other then that, good luck, and enjoy
  3. Okay I have to admit there is something cool about a slime case. I don't normally fall for that kind of stuff but it looks awesome. Is it metal or just palstic? I can't tell from the picture,
  4. So it looks like Philly and I have the entire market of E.T. Atari games. Someday when I break out the old Atari I will take some pictures of the screens so everyone can see it in all of its "glory"
  5. I have actually built quite a few Arcade Cabinets in my day (My wife cringes everytime she goes into the basement to find me playing NBA JAM or Ghouls and Ghosts, etc. But I find the best way to get a physical cabinet is to check the old telnet message boards for arcade machine collectors. I have since switched computers so I don't know the exact bulitin board for it. If you need me to find it let me know and I will try to pick it up next time I am at my mother's house. There is always someone in your area that will sell you the cabinet you need (normally with the glass) for like $20. Then you just replace the guts and you are good to go. BUT If you are stuck on the idea of going it all on your own, THIS is the program. It is a 30 day free trial and it alters the registry so you can't just uninstall and reinstall it...but it does everything http://www.download.com/AutoCAD/3000-6677_4-10573933.html That will let you design something as small scale as a computer processor or as big as a city (It costs like 4k to buy it). Hope that helps.
  6. You will have to get me your friend code. I can bring you some rare fruit and stuff to get you started.
  7. I know a dude from High School that was "Skitching" back when the idea was new (It has been out there for al ong time, just not main stream) and he wiped out. It almost killed him. He required surgery to his left quad, right calf, 2 facial surgerys, and a lot of stiches across his chest and back. He seriously looked like someone put him through a meat grinder for months.
  8. There you go....the game was soooo freaking hard the developers put in a backdoor so they could properly test the thing. (Not to mention you have to enter the code AFTER Game Over..not just at the game over screen) Its not like this was a fun code like the Contra 99 man code (so you could do whatever you wanted in the game) it is just something that lets you try the same level over and over again until you throw the controller.
  9. Face it...Currently in America we have a Media of Hate. The mass media only likes stories of hate and outrage. They could care less about the good stuff. In the same paper where the front page is huge letters about a catapeller who can say butt you will find on page 6 in a small paragraph a story about how a random guy saved 5 people from a burning building. You don't hear about that everywhere.... besides. last time I checked an butt was part of the anatomy, or can we not reference that anymore either? Man. Next thing you know they will get rid of something because it says HEAD...okay bad example. See what I mean about any word being bad based on meaning. I really can't believe the media hasn't jumped all over "HEADstart" as being just as bad as a catapeller that you can force to say butt...
  10. Soul Calibur Phantasy Star Online Samba De Amigo Marvel v. Capcom Grandia 2
  11. Sadly I have had this conversation before at great length. There are a lot of bad games out there...but thankfully there is only 1 (Probably only one left in existance...barried in my grandparent's basement) ET for the Atari.
  12. You can't stop it. There is no way to stop people from getting SOMETHING in that will upset others. I mean...you can still do A.ss or something of those along those lines. I mean people just get offended easily. If you look really close at the picture, the people managed to use the Nyea (Swiggly line above characters) to get it past the word check. Besides, people need to just relax a little more. In the words of the immortal George Carlin "Words don't hurt anybody, its the meaning the crazy ahole using them puts to them"
  13. I just love how they totally ignore the fact that the exact same thing can spread through the internet to everyone's AC:CF the exact same way. I received a new townsperson from someone who constantly calls me "Lover" and one that calls me "Jerk". I find it funny...but some people may not. Anyway, that kind of thing is just something that happens with Animal Crossing. I just can't believe everyone is going this crazy about it. Not to mention that is a name commonly used in the black culture.
  14. Awesome. We are always glad to have more people working for the RetroMags Team
  15. Okay, I have been keeping an eye on this topic for a while now... Superman 64 -- Okay there is some serious weight behind this being the worse game of all time. But at LEAST it had Superman. Yes...it made no sense...but it did have the Man of Steel. I know it isn't much but we are going for the worse game of all time. There is at least a few fanboys out there that ENJOYED that mess. That Green Kryptonite Fog Mess... Pit Fighter -- Okay, yeah. the controls were sloppy at best, but it was at least the industry trying something new with real person character models. There is also something refreshing at the time about smashing a car up. Yes...Again, not much but you have to look at what we are dealing with. Busby 3d - Okay...At least you had some idea what you were suppose to be doing. There was a story (although bad one) for you to follow and it even had an ending (if you made it that far) Now I have not heard a single reason why ANY of these games are worse off then E.T. for the Atari. As quoted above E.T. almost ended the entire video game industry. None of the other games could say that. E.T. Didn't even have a story that one could figure out. You just walked around and randomly fell down wholes where you would have to raise your neck to get out (once you figured out that is what you were suppose to do) Sometimes you got boxes (pieces of something) and sometimes you get food, (which just gives you points) and other times you a guy in black (who would kill you because his movement speed was 900x yours and he could apparently fly). There is no character appeal (since you play a mass of brown that in no way even remotly looks like E.T. There is no new inovation in gaming applied here There is no storyline There is no ending. Even if you collect all of the boxes nothing happens. You just keep going. If anyone can show me a game that 1) Almost ends the industry 2) has no plot 3) has no playable controls 4) has no ending 5) has enemies that are unbeatable 6) has no real character recognition 7) has no "fanboy" fanbase 8) was actually recalled and used as landfill. If anyone can beat that list of "Achievements" then I will bow to their chosen game as the worse game of all time... Until then. E.T. for the Atari is the worse game ever. QED.
  16. LOL..That is funny E-Day. Not you dying but that you have allready given your kid a membership for when you die. What is the easiest way to donate that isn't through paypal?
  17. You do know that SubZero's gloves are made out of Refined Magical Kryptonite. That is part of the reason why he can control the ice so well. /sigh
  18. I will pick up the magazines when I go to my parent's house for Thanksgiving. I will then try and see how much it would be to ship them to you guys. Granted, if it is too much I won't be able to ship them because I am in the process of buying a house for my wife (and myself) and don't really have much extra for the next...well forever. Is there a specific process for sending this stuff in to someone to get added?
  19. I actually have problems with wii speak in that I can't' hear the game music or anything. I think it is probably because people are new to it and don't realize they don't have to yell ( I feel for fast food people now) It seems like a great thing and eventually I will probably have to pick one up. Having to type with the wii mote is sooooo painful.
  20. I have the game and wi ll admit that I spent my fair share of time playing card games (I actually made a supplemental income in college playing them) I kind of liked EoJ during the first set. I couldn't find any of the cards, so I just found a place online where I could download images of the cards then printed them on card stock (my printer is good enough the eye could still read the bar code). At that time it was a lot of fun. The game played well and I had all of the cards when they came out with teh expansion set I gave up on it. You had to pay extra to download the online component of the expansion set to basicly even use the game anymore. THEN you had to go out and buy the cards. I am not really willing to put up World of Warcraft type money just because they release an expansion. Apparently you can't even play the original set only anymore....you are forced to at least download the additional expansion at a cost to you (I don't remember it exactly).
  21. If it makes you feel any better Thor, my wife does it without even knowing it. She did it like 20 times before I called her on it and she didn't even know she was doing it. So no, I don't think it makes you weird or a jerk...apparently some people just have a better sense of smell then others. More surface area to sweat from + clothes that encourage sweating = a smell.
  22. Please let me know if Retromags needs any of these magazines for the site. These are the ones I just found and are in relatively good condition. Nintendo Power 114 Game Pro December 1993 EGM 73, 78, 80, 81, 84, 85, 86, 88, 92, 94,97, 105, 108, 110, SWAT Pro March 1994 Game Player Vol 1. #5 (Nove1989) and Vol 1. #6 Beyond The Nintendo Masters (By Hayden Books) Sega Visions April 94 (I am pretty sure you have this one) Video Games (July 94 - Cover slightly worn) Please let me know. Thanks.
  23. Yeah. I called my Gamestop and they said the same. They will be getting like 4 of the bundle in and no more. So it will be first come first serve. Apparently you have to buy the Wii Speak from a retailor to get the Special Wii Speak Channel on the Wii. Apparently this will include some kind of video messaging. I guess I won't have to use Eye of Judgment for PS3 as my video converencing anymore I called Best Buy as well (Bored) and they said they were getting a limited number in as well but they wouldn't know until the truck came in Saturday night. P.S. If anyone wants to create a RetroMags T-Shirt or Flag I will gladly display it in my town Probably a great way to get more people to the site. P.S.S. Besides, Philly will just ban them all later anyway ! (Kidding)
  24. I copied this from my post on gamefaqs to help others get the game Just in case this might help a few of you. I live in Central IL I went in to one Wal-mart in town and they were putting up all of the new games that they got in. I asked the lady there if I could go through the boxes because I was looking for Animal Crossing for the Wii. She didn't care (typical for Walmart) and I didn't find any. I asked her to look it up in the computer and she said they weren't getting in until Saturday. Not to leave it at that I stopped at another Walmart and found that a lot of the shelves for Wii games were empty. I knew the other store was putting there games up (apparently a lot of Walmarts put there new games up on Thursday (restock time I guess) so I asked her if she knew if they had any. She looked perplexed so I just asked her to check in the computer since there were a bunch of empty shelves in the Wii game area. She checked the computer then sent someone into the back and brought me out a copy. She scanned it in and it rang up just fine. Here is the only picture I have been able to get to work (my camera isn't so hot) http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo300/H...r2/100_0312.jpg I have peaches as my fruit. Anyone who has the game and wants to trade let me know and I will get my friend code so we can trade fruit. They didn't have the wiispeak version so I just got the regular. I decided NOT to transfer my full catalog from WW. I went ahead and created a new character and put my Mii face on it. If I ever am really REALLY hard up for my catalog I can always bring my DS character in as a second townie and just have him buy it and mail it to my original character. Anyone have any questions about the game? I would gladly answer them.
  25. I am telling you, I have been playing hardcore from the beginning...I am talking Atari and Commadore, even Odysee (I could never spell it...I wasn't that old back then). The hardest game EVER is Soloman's Keys. It is a puzzle game that didn't get very much press back in the day. Even if you cheat and have screen shots that show exactly where you need to move, you STILL die about halfway into the game. Some levels require that you not only know exactly what to move but require that you make exact, perfectly timed movements that start the instant the screen starts the level. I agree that Super G&G can be ridiculous (especially the last level) and Fester's quest is almost stupid difficult at times (I can make it through Battletoads without dieing) but none of them hold a candle to what Soloman's Keys can dish out. I am pretty sure that being at least a little psychic is a requirement as some of the monsters (not all of them) have a completly random pathing algorithm. So even if you managed to get past it once, next time you might die doing the exact same thing.
