One time I was walking with my ex g/f on Ventura Blvd, I think it was, and there were names of movies on the bricks making up the sidewalk. We were saying, man, a lot of these sound like porn movie titles(they weren't). Then she pointed out "Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps" and we busted up laughing. I'll just leave that one to your sick imaginations.2 points

Here's all the stuff that I eventually plan to scan. Mags that have "???" listed for the month do not have the month printed anywhere on or in the magazine and could not be discerned. Some of these mags may not be scanned anytime in the near future as they are very wide and would not fit on a standard scanner (Amiga World, Amiga Format, Next Generation, etc). If you have any Electronic Games or Electronic Fun/Computer Fun issues that aren't listed and you want them scanned please let me know. Nintendo Power: (Nintendo of America, Inc.) Well, my original plan was to come here and scan a bunch of nifty stuff, but now I've been playing around with my scanner and it's kind of giving me some troubles, so I'm putting scans on hold for the time being until I can figure out what's up with my hardware. Instead, I've noticed there's this big, huge Wiki with all these empty and stub-class entries for the Magazine Indexing Project...so I'm going to officially dedicate myself to dusting off my boxes of classic mags and start dumping complete index information into that lovely, virginal Wiki-space while everyone else plays with their scanning equipment. I'll use this thread as my own little "work in progress" area so that I've got a list of what I've done so far and what I'm working on at any given time if that's OK with the rest of you. Maybe one day I'll be worthy of a sticky, but until that day comes, I'll just update it whenever something new or interesting is going on over there. So, as my first sources of pride and joy to be released on the site, I give you the complete indexes for Nintendo Power, issues 059 and 062. Feel free to check my work and make suggestions/corrections/repairs as needed, ye great and powerful moderators. Nintendo Power 059 Index Nintendo Power 062 Index (4/16/09): Index work for issue 072 has been completed! Nintendo Power 072 Index *huggles* Areala1 point

Hello. I wanna help. I don't have scan in my house right now, but I wonder if I can help uploading some magazines that I have in my HD and don't appear in the Download Section. For example I upload Official Sega Saturn Magazine nº 034 - aug 1998 . The scan is not mine, I found it in internet. I hope you can add your download database. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JFIE46OS If everything is all right I upload more. Thanks!1 point

I shall do that, thanks. I remember first coming across that site in college in 1998 when our instructor talked about it.1 point

Is this media center box or will you be using it for anything else? The reason I ask is that most machines nowadays can play 1080p video with no problem. My 2 year old machine, built by myself with C2D E6400 (i think), plays 1080p video without a hitch. It can't play all the latest and greatest video games, but I don't have much time for video games nowadays. However, I do play a lot of game that came out 3-5 years ago, which look fantastic. I guess if you are going to be editing tons of home video footage in 1080i, then maybe getting the latest and greatest makes sense. If you just need a reasonably fast machine, you can get one for under $1000. I also might wait until you can get Windows 7 64bit. I hear it kicks Vista's butt.1 point

I think I understand what you're saying here, which is to have all previews, regardless of system, lumped together in one category and then, likewise, all reviews put together in one category? Or do you mean rather that they should be broken down as, say, Arcade Previews, then Game Boy Previews, Nintendo 64 Previews, etc... and then later on have Arcade Reviews, then Game Boy Reviews, Nintendo 64 Reviews, etc...? My intention in doing it the way I did was simple alphabetical order according to system, so that it would be very easy to find all the Nintendo 64 stuff right together and then broken down into whether or not it is a preview or review, and those sections further arranged alphabetically by title. Thus, if somebody was looking to see if, say, Final Fantasy VII was featured in a given issue of GI (and didn't want to use the Wiki search function for some reason), you could click on the article link, scroll down to Playstation, and very quickly look to see if any Final Fantasy titles occured in either the previews or reviews and then move on without having to jump all over the page willy-nilly looking for them in multiple sections. This way, anybody who knows their alphabet can very quickly find the system they want, then the game. Alphabetical order also removes any possibility for accusation of bias (putting Playstation first and Dreamcast all the way at the bottom if I'm a Sega hater, for instance). What does everyone else think? Is Jake's suggestion more logical than alphabetical order? I'm fine either way; we want it to be easy to use, after all...a wiki isn't a vanity project. *huggles* Areala1 point

Since it's been like 3 months since I did anything significant with the Wiki, I figured it was time to add another drop in our bucket. And since it's a Dreamcast anniversary, I thought I'd find a magazine that dealt with a bunch of Dreamcast reviews/previews. To wit: Game Informer 78 has now been drained of its pitiful Stub status and fully indexed! Any comments or questions, you know where to direct 'em. Edit: now Game Informer 84 has been indexed as well. It's hard to stop once you've started. *huggles* Areala1 point

I got the day off work today. I will likely spend some of it scanning off my Street Fighter II guide for SNES. I love the artwork inside the mag and it's a very detailed guide, 150+ pages. I am currently doing a series of Game Player's but I'm not very disciplined at following a consistent order.1 point

I just got done de-binding the December '91 issue of EGM so you can likely expect it at the end of the week or early next week. btw, it's missing pages 125 & 126 so if anyone has a copy, a scan of those two pages will be much appreciated. I was into SF2 att and it was part of the SF2 guide.1 point

I had been desperately looking for a certain copy of VG&CE for years. When I came across a Spelunker strategy that I had clipped from that magazine, I had a clue! I searched in Google and found a link, and that was it. Retromags didn't have the issue of VG&CE in question (which was JAN/FEB '89, I think), but I stayed anyways. Great site.1 point

I was going to just post an article about how awesome this project is and try to get people into it. If you DO have somebody make a graphic for the site I would be more than happy to put it along the side bar of page as a permanent link button. Just have them make it about the same size as the buttons already on there.1 point

I have a modification in place that closes topics that have had no activity in 90 days. So your posting gives the "shy" people on the forums a place to comment when they are not comfortable starting a topic of their own1 point

Was cleaning and ran across an issue of Game Buyer magazine that I didn't remember having, so I added minor update to the Wiki about how Ultra Game Players became Game Buyer briefly before finally being cancelled by Imagine back in 1998. Also, Akator has very graciously offered to cover shipping of a nice load of things to be scanned and uploaded to the site as donated by me. Akator, my brother has them now, and he said expect them to be shipped out within the next week or so after he gets paid. My apologies for scant work lately; we're in the process of trying to do a lot of cleaning in preparation for a move that may happen within the next year, and so most of my free time has been focused on that. In another month or so, though, I may have another box of goodies ready to be shipped to someone, either for sale on Chasethechuckwagon or else for scanning if they aren't already in our archives. We'll see what my frenzy uncovers next! *huggles* Areala1 point

Just goes to show we rock! Also, PSM Issue 16 fully indexed, and PSM Issue 18 updated with info on the Q&A with Ted Woolsey reprint. Expect PSM 18 to get requested on the forums shortly once word gets out. Why? See for yourself: PSM Issue 18 PSM Issue 22 is next on the list for indexing. Go team go.1 point

Sweet! I wondered if that existed anywhere... I've infoboxed every PSM up to 110 on the Wiki. Now all we need is the heavy lifting of the indexing. I found around half a dozen more magazines that I can index there, so I'll play around with those for the next couple days. *huggles* Areala1 point

Sorry I'm in a bit of a hurry so I did not look over the entire topic. But I just wanted to let you know the page numbers are not necissary so you don't have to do that and it saves you time if you don't put them in there. But The first thing listed on the wiki page for Nintendo Power should be systems covered. So if in the magazine they talk about rumors to a new Nintendo system or anything like that just put a reference in there about it. But wow this is great thank you so much for the help. See http://www.retromags.com/wiki/Nintendo_Pow..._feb_1992_(USA) as an example as the way I'm configuring those now if you don't mind. I kinda am trying to keep them all uniform.1 point

Alrighty! Nix all the country codes, preceeding zeroes, and dates in the titles...that's simple enough to remember. Seems like it'll make for a huge amount of moving or redirecting for you guys though...sorry for the extra work. :( Hey, can I add the little infobox for the magazine image and whatnot on the pages I am stubbing too? It might make it easier for anyone else to come along and update the information and the magazine scan, but if you want me to stick to just the basics, that's cool too.1 point

I'm going to take a quick break on scanning Nintendo Player's Guides so I can do a much needed preservation of the premier issue of Ahoy! magazine (January, 1984). I must have read this mag 50 times as a kid, and it definitely shows. Update 04/23/09, 2:30am: Scanning & Editing completed. Mag has been uploaded.1 point

Yeah, I was thinking about manually cropping the bottom of each image and then running a script to crop the tops of all the images to a uniform height. Unfortunately it's easier said than done because I need to find the image that needs the most cropping as the lowest common denominator. Then I plan to do the same with the spine edge of the page (finding the page that needs the most cropping and cropping the rest of the pages to the same width). The reason I wanted to do it this way was so that when the pages are all scaled down to 1600 pix wide the text is consistently the same size from page to page. I had noticed from scanning a book a while ago that if I just cropped each page individually to slightly different sizes then the text differed slightly in size from page to page after it was scaled. As I was playing with some of the pages last night I'm still undecided as to whether to straighten the pages. Most pages are not 100% straight, but I'm pretty certain it's due to the actual printing because the tops and bottoms of the page are straight and I scanned with the edge of the page (not the spine edge) against the edge of the platen so that edge is also straight. I plan on running a couple of test scans tonight with the page in the middle of the platen and straighten (via the ruler tool on PS) it to see how much more cropping work would need to be done. With the few I tested yesterday straightening them only requires rotating by .3 degrees so I'm not sure it's worth it...1 point

I'm going to resize them down to 1600. I'm keeping the original (full size) PNG's on a back-up HD. I'm sure they'll be needed again sometime in the future as monitor resolutions increase. Actually it's not dust - these were quick and dirty test crops I did (the originals are still uncropped) and that page looks like it has a very small piece missing at the top left corner. Most likely this was done at the printers since I only opened this thing a couple of times before. I'm still figuring out a work flow in Photoshop to make sure the pages are all cropped uniformly but retain as much of the pages as possible. I'm looking for the absolute best quality I can get as I'm only going to be doing it once so any suggestions are definitely welcome. I really love my Epson 4490 - it's a great scanner for the price.1 point
