  1. my gaming is certainly not what it was when i was a kid, but i still get my time in. i'm making it a point (started in january '16) to put a higher focus on gaming. hoping to clear out the backlog a bit and knock out a couple of games that i've owned forever but never given a proper chance to.
  2. damn, DP, i finally got a chance to really browse your pics. you've got a ton of stuff, but also a ton of quality stuff. that is a real nice diverse collection you have. are you missing Metroid for the NES? i didn't see it in the pic, but granted i easily could've missed it somewhere. that is literally the only thing missing that stood out to me.
  3. .....and i just picked up a GameCube. no pics, but it finishes off my Nintendo systems (at least until the Switch drops). With it a grabbed Super Mario Sunshine ($5), Wave Race: Blue Storm ($4), and Smash Bros Melee ($20). It also prompted me to order a few games online, so i've got Mario Kart: Double Dash and Metroid Prime coming in the mail. Happy Birthday to me!
  4. have always been, and always will be, a wrestling fan. now, to clarify, i don't follow most of what's shown on TV today. The WWE lost me as a fan many years ago (i stopped religiously watching Monday Night Raw in 2004). But i still know what goes on, thru friends that still watch, or a wrestling message board that i'm a part of. The actual show just can't hold my interest anymore. to make up for that, a couple years ago i started watching the glory years (the "Attitude Era" for those in the know) again. i'm watching it in real time (one episode every Monday night) but i'm also watching it ALL. the Raws, the SmackDown!s, the PPVs, the weekend shows that don't matter. everything i can find. to make this more complicating, i'm also watching WCW programs. Nitro every Monday, Thunder on thursdays, and their entire plethora of weekend shows. i'm in October of 1999 right now, and i plan on working my way thru the end of 2001. After that, i'm not sure, but i'll probably do something similar with 1980s WWF/NWA shows. favorite wrestler: "Macho Man" Randy Savage. even when he was the bad guy, i still rooted for him. Hell, in my mind, anybody that feuded with him was clearly in the wrong. Also rounding out the top four are: Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and Jushin Liger. After that, there's a lot of contenders: Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, Ultimo Dragon, Ultimate Warrior, etc. etc. i've been to a number of live events. Most notably, WrestleManias 22 (Chicago, 2006) and 23 (Detroit, 2007). 'Mania 22 was amazing. the atmosphere was electric. 23 was huge (80,000+ people) and was fun too but way less memorable for me (likely due to not following the show much at all). Last year, i took my 11 year old nephew to a local wrestling show (a co-worker wrestles for this promotion) and it was one of the best wrestling experiences i've ever had. He was super into it the whole time and he raved about the fact that the lead good guy (my co-worker) high fived him after his match. it was awesome. the best wrestling video game is hands down WWF No Mercy for the n64. i can still play it to this day and have a blast. pure perfection. as for why men like it? i dunno. i've been a fan since i was a kid. i tend to liken it as "real life superheroes" as opposed to "soap opera for men". the garish costumes, the feats of strength, the way they risk their bodies by flying through the air. it's the whole atmosphere. the "fake" stuff is such a stupid argument. it's like, "you know 'the Walking Dead' didn't really happen right?"
  5. let me join in the chorus of people who would rather avoid the multiplayer (unless it is friends on my couch with me or etc.) have played Mario Kart 8 with some friends online but it's never as much fun as being with those people. i'm a big fan of the game series "Diablo" on PC. even in d3, which is online-only, i play single player and avoid any interaction with anybody else. the way that i play doesn't mesh up with the way other people play, so i just don't have any fun.
  6. i've mentioned a number of times, thru a number of communication avenues, that Nintendo really should release a 3ds cartridge with all/most of the Virtual Boy library. some of the games are actually pretty good (Wario Land, Jack Bros) and some are a cool novelty (Teleroboxer, Mario Clash). Sure, some are garbage (Waterworld) but why not?
  7. i'm a bigger fan of the original nWo theme. with Hendrix's riffs you can't go wrong. you know what? yeah. i'm picking the nWo theme as my entrance tune. 4 LIFE!
  8. as i mentioned above, LoZ is my all-time favorite game. i truly can't begin to comprehend how i would react if that game came out today. i probably wouldn't like it, to be honest. "where's level three? you mean i just have to wander around until i find it? that's stupid". and don't get me started on trying to find level 5. there's no f-ing way i would EVER run across that one.
  9. my answer is my favorite game of all time, The Legend of Zelda. the original, on the NES. i spent countless hours on the floor of my bedroom with hand-drawn maps strewn about me, trying to find out WHICH ROOM HAD THAT SECRET PASSAGE? I KNOW I WROTE IT DOWN SOMEWHERE! years later, i set out on a seemingly endless quest to burn every bush, bomb every wall, push every stone. i had to break this game down completely and discover every last secret. many years later, i still have these maps and hints that i discovered. i play through the game probably once a year and get absolutely enamored every time. i've played (and beaten) it every way imaginable. play through with only three hearts? yep. get to Gannon without nabbing the sword? double check. play it blindfolded? well, no, that just sounds crazy and i'm totally not buying a blindfold on eBay right now.
  10. will have to ponder this for a time and report back. in the mean time, let me share a related memory: so i got married a couple years back, we had an outdoor wedding. in my walk down (yes, MY walk down. the groom in fact did walk down on his own!) i entered to "Pomp & Circumstance", best known as a graduation song, but to me will always be "Macho Man" Randy Savage's entrance theme. It was sort of a rock remix from when he was in WCW in the late '90s, but the same song nonetheless. and YES, i did enter with the same panache that he always did. the way i saw it, it's likely the only time i'll ever ACTUALLY have entrance music so i needed to make the most of it.
  11. i used to re-subscribe to NP with old subscription cards. this way i could get the old school guides like the NES Atlas, plus the cost was only $18 as opposed to $19.95. i kept waiting for them to put a stop to it, but they never did. i was subscribed up until around the GameCube era, so that worked out pretty well.
  12. i'd kill for one of those counselor binders. somebody should scan and archive one so that i can open my own NES tip line.
  13. i have a co-worker who is obsessed with the game. he makes a new level at least 2-3 times a week. not simple levels, either. very complex, multiple-choice-route kinda stuff. me, i like to play the levels but the designing deal didn't hook me like i thought it would.

    Uploading Gamepro

looks good to me! thanks for contributing!
  15. never was a big PlayStation player, but here's a list of games that i own (and a couple on my want list): own: Diablo (D2 is one of my favorite games of all time, rivaling only the original Legend of Zelda) Final Fantasy VII (the first [only?] time i was ever sad when a video game character died) Mortal Kombat Trilogy (own the n64 version first, but the PSX version is probably better) Resident Evil ('nuff said) Resident Evil 2 (again, knew the n64 version first) WCW Nitro (oh god this game is terrible, even by wrestling game standards) want: Crash Bandicoot (never played it, but it always looked like a ton of fun) Tomb Raider (was never a fan of the graphics in its day) Spyro the Dragon (also never played it)

    Download question

a lot of people downloading a lot of magazines puts a ton of strain on the server so it is discouraged. look at it this way: while you're downloading the 2nd mag, you can be reading the first! it's a win-win!!
  17. i tend to listen to '80s music while playing the NES. i've got a giant playlist filled with all sorts of tunes from the decade. from New Wave to Hair Metal to Pop to Rock. a bit of everything that really helps put me in the mood.
  18. i am pretty convinced that most Sega Genesis games are unbeatable. Exceptions include the Sonic games, of course, and a handful of others. But there's a lot of tough ones out there. i remember the day i brought home Comix Zone. i was SO excited, based on the comic book presentation, the way you traveled from panel to panel, everything. and then i played the game. i thought, "man this is pretty tough. i need to practice." so i played it some more. and then a bit more. and then my thoughts were more like "man f- this game. i'm gonna play Sonic & Knuckles"
  19. i thought i would absolutely LOVE the first Pikmin when i picked up the Wii version a couple years ago. i didn't. it just didn't hold my attention and i found it tedious. a side-scroller is more up my alley. maybe i'll give this one a shot. i'll definitely wait for reviews and gameplay videos tho. not in a hurry to pick it up.
  20. i have this game but haven't tried that. not sure how the sharing deal works. sorry to offer no assistance.
  21. i've had at least a six pack of the stuff, with another 4-5 bottles in the fridge right now. i am already saddened that it will be leaving the market (again) in a couple weeks. better stock up. i don't think i can go another 23 years.
  22. thanks for updating, i am downloading specifically for the comic. it is very much appreciated!
  23. my Sega Genesis has evolved! don't have any games for it (will probably pick up Virtua Fighter and Knuckles Chaotix fairly soon) but i've been playing some Genesis games on it today. not anything to write home about, but it adds to my collection of "novelties" pretty well.
  24. i don't. my retro systems are all on an old 1980s console TV. from n64 (yes, it's a retro system as well) and newer are on my flatscreen, but they're all just hooked up thru RCAs. making them look their absolute best never really appealed to me. there's still only so many polygons.
