  1. as i mentioned above, LoZ is my all-time favorite game. i truly can't begin to comprehend how i would react if that game came out today. i probably wouldn't like it, to be honest. "where's level three? you mean i just have to wander around until i find it? that's stupid". and don't get me started on trying to find level 5. there's no f-ing way i would EVER run across that one.
  2. my answer is my favorite game of all time, The Legend of Zelda. the original, on the NES. i spent countless hours on the floor of my bedroom with hand-drawn maps strewn about me, trying to find out WHICH ROOM HAD THAT SECRET PASSAGE? I KNOW I WROTE IT DOWN SOMEWHERE! years later, i set out on a seemingly endless quest to burn every bush, bomb every wall, push every stone. i had to break this game down completely and discover every last secret. many years later, i still have these maps and hints that i discovered. i play through the game probably once a year and get absolutely enamored every time. i've played (and beaten) it every way imaginable. play through with only three hearts? yep. get to Gannon without nabbing the sword? double check. play it blindfolded? well, no, that just sounds crazy and i'm totally not buying a blindfold on eBay right now.
  3. will have to ponder this for a time and report back. in the mean time, let me share a related memory: so i got married a couple years back, we had an outdoor wedding. in my walk down (yes, MY walk down. the groom in fact did walk down on his own!) i entered to "Pomp & Circumstance", best known as a graduation song, but to me will always be "Macho Man" Randy Savage's entrance theme. It was sort of a rock remix from when he was in WCW in the late '90s, but the same song nonetheless. and YES, i did enter with the same panache that he always did. the way i saw it, it's likely the only time i'll ever ACTUALLY have entrance music so i needed to make the most of it.
  4. i used to re-subscribe to NP with old subscription cards. this way i could get the old school guides like the NES Atlas, plus the cost was only $18 as opposed to $19.95. i kept waiting for them to put a stop to it, but they never did. i was subscribed up until around the GameCube era, so that worked out pretty well.
  5. i'd kill for one of those counselor binders. somebody should scan and archive one so that i can open my own NES tip line.
  6. i have a co-worker who is obsessed with the game. he makes a new level at least 2-3 times a week. not simple levels, either. very complex, multiple-choice-route kinda stuff. me, i like to play the levels but the designing deal didn't hook me like i thought it would.

    Uploading Gamepro

looks good to me! thanks for contributing!
  8. never was a big PlayStation player, but here's a list of games that i own (and a couple on my want list): own: Diablo (D2 is one of my favorite games of all time, rivaling only the original Legend of Zelda) Final Fantasy VII (the first [only?] time i was ever sad when a video game character died) Mortal Kombat Trilogy (own the n64 version first, but the PSX version is probably better) Resident Evil ('nuff said) Resident Evil 2 (again, knew the n64 version first) WCW Nitro (oh god this game is terrible, even by wrestling game standards) want: Crash Bandicoot (never played it, but it always looked like a ton of fun) Tomb Raider (was never a fan of the graphics in its day) Spyro the Dragon (also never played it)

    Download question

a lot of people downloading a lot of magazines puts a ton of strain on the server so it is discouraged. look at it this way: while you're downloading the 2nd mag, you can be reading the first! it's a win-win!!
  10. i tend to listen to '80s music while playing the NES. i've got a giant playlist filled with all sorts of tunes from the decade. from New Wave to Hair Metal to Pop to Rock. a bit of everything that really helps put me in the mood.
  11. i am pretty convinced that most Sega Genesis games are unbeatable. Exceptions include the Sonic games, of course, and a handful of others. But there's a lot of tough ones out there. i remember the day i brought home Comix Zone. i was SO excited, based on the comic book presentation, the way you traveled from panel to panel, everything. and then i played the game. i thought, "man this is pretty tough. i need to practice." so i played it some more. and then a bit more. and then my thoughts were more like "man f- this game. i'm gonna play Sonic & Knuckles"
  12. i thought i would absolutely LOVE the first Pikmin when i picked up the Wii version a couple years ago. i didn't. it just didn't hold my attention and i found it tedious. a side-scroller is more up my alley. maybe i'll give this one a shot. i'll definitely wait for reviews and gameplay videos tho. not in a hurry to pick it up.
  13. i have this game but haven't tried that. not sure how the sharing deal works. sorry to offer no assistance.
  14. i've had at least a six pack of the stuff, with another 4-5 bottles in the fridge right now. i am already saddened that it will be leaving the market (again) in a couple weeks. better stock up. i don't think i can go another 23 years.
  15. thanks for updating, i am downloading specifically for the comic. it is very much appreciated!
  16. my Sega Genesis has evolved! don't have any games for it (will probably pick up Virtua Fighter and Knuckles Chaotix fairly soon) but i've been playing some Genesis games on it today. not anything to write home about, but it adds to my collection of "novelties" pretty well.
  17. i don't. my retro systems are all on an old 1980s console TV. from n64 (yes, it's a retro system as well) and newer are on my flatscreen, but they're all just hooked up thru RCAs. making them look their absolute best never really appealed to me. there's still only so many polygons.
  18. played this a little bit last night in honor of the SNES turning 25. this is the game that led to me re-re-buying a Super Nintendo like 18 months ago.
  19. i, too, grew up with it on the n64 and sunk countless hours into it. i have since acquired the PSX version as well, but it's always the n64 for me!
  20. good luck in your hunt, Alex! the NES is my all-time favorite system. i'm sitting at about 160ish games (haven't counted in a while). i have no designs on getting a complete run (over 700!) and just grab what i'm interested in playing. i also go the cartridge-only route. Mainly due to price, plus what am i gonna do with 160 cardboard boxes? i've got no room to display them, so may as well not even bother. yeah, the NES-Classic may drive prices up a little bit, but my guess is that the difference will be negligible. That mini system has a fantastic lineup of games on it, so it should satisfy most people. agreed, kitsunebi. Emulation is absolutely the easiest and cheapest (and in many ways, best) route to go if you're just interested in playing the games. You've got every available game at your fingertips (including games that weren't released in your region AND prototypes/hacks/homebrews) and they run smoothly. i just never got into emulation much, for whatever reason. i love my cartridges.
  21. wow, that's nuts. yeah, i'm not an RPG guy, so that list doesn't look like much to me. how the original Mario Bros game makes that list is mind-boggling. i'm surprised that Punch-Out! isn't ranked on the top 100 list you quoted. has boxing ever been popular in Japan? i don't follow it, but i'm not familiar with any Japanese boxers. i guess that could easily be a reason. not surprised that MM4 is the lowest of the Mega Man games. it's generally regarded as "more of the same" even here in the States, but like i said, i love it. i just read the complete list. it's insane. no Ninja Gaiden, no Bubble Bobble, no Kid Icarus? yet they have like 4 DragonBall Z games. utterly bizarre.
  22. this was posted before my time, but i can't resist but join in: 1. The Legend of Zelda. -THE game that spawned my love of video games. 2. Super Mario Bros. 3. -an all-time great, and for a reason. 3. Punch-Out!! -specifically the Mike Tyson version, but nothing against Mr. Dream 4. Mega Man -i mean the entire series is excellent, but my vote is for #4, i owned 2 & 3, but had to rent #4, which made the challenge and intrigue greater. Plus you can charge. 5. Bomberman -a game that i never played as a kid and didn't discover until i was in my 20s, but fell in love with completely the second it started. What an amazing game. 6. TMNT 2: The Arcade Game -after the travesty that is the first Turtles game (don't get me wrong, i played it endlessly), this game is exactly what i needed. 7. Double Dragon -most argue that DD2 is superior, but i grew up with the first and love it completely. 8. Contra -come on, who doesn't love this? 9. Adventure Island -i know now that this is a port of Wonder Boy from Sega, but i didn't at the time. 10. Bubble Bobble -my wife's favorite game, and it holds a special place in my heart as well. So cute and fun but some stages are just brutal i have an honorable mention spot for Metroid. i've never fully delved into the game to give it an accurate ranking, but i always enjoyed it. Some day, i will sit on my basement floor and hand-draw maps for it as i navigate my way through those tunnels and doors and fall in love with it. That day is not today. oh man, there are SOOO many games that i love that didn't make the cut. Kirby's Adventure, CastleVania, Dr. Mario, Little Nemo, Alfred Chicken, and the list goes on.
  23. people have been talking about a "bubble" since at least 2012. the reality is that prices have been an an upswing since about 2010. People that grew up playing these games are now fully in the "i have more disposable income and i want all the things i had as a kid" period of their life. That, along with things like YouTube videos, 'overlooked gems' lists, and falling supply have all led us to the point that we are at now. Generally, there's more knowledge and interest in the 'rare' titles, and as people discover them, they also discover that they want them, continually rising the price. it is completely possible that in 5-10 years, the "bubble will burst" or prices will go down. But that is absolutely not a guarantee. edit: i'm specifically talking about the NES, although it is also relevant for most other systems. The Super Nintendo is at the early point of its price increase, although i feel that it is on a much faster/higher upswing than the NES took. The Sega Genesis is still at a pretty low point, although i foresee that will change in the next couple years.
  24. i have the second issue of "Where's Waldo" magazine. i believe they only made two. when i find the 1st one for very cheap, i will probably scan them and toss them online somewhere. highly doubt there's much demand, but you never know.... i also have a metric ton of digital comic books preserved. you can find pretty much anything. the few things i've looked for and been unable to locate, i picked up on the cheap and made them available.
